IN PROGRESS ARTISTS

Velizar? //
Electronica/House/Techno

One of the first Djs in Eastern Europe region to fight for the popularization of Electronic Dance Music in the mid 90’s in Bulgaria. Velizar a/k/a Chocho took advantage of the lawless political climate at the time, and began his Dj career at the tender age of 15. By 17, he had developed a passion for Electronic Music and was a full time DJ, playing across the country. By 1999 He has established himself at the forefront of electronic dance music scene in Bulgaria in his multiple roles as Dj, club promoter and music curator. He held residencies at the legendary Country Club on the beach of Black Sea in Sozopol, as well as at the Yalta Chervilo Clubs in Sofia. He played alongside such legends as Underworld, and Leftfield, Sven Vath, and John Digweed, to name a few.Sonically bridging the gap between East and West, since 2003, Velizar has been actively involved in the New York City underground music scene with residencies at Midway, Click, Highline, Café Deville, Moomia, Galapagos Art Space, and has participated in various parties and events in Miami, Chicago, San Francisco, Mexico City, Berlin, London, and Barcelona. Currently, Velizar? is the headline DJ and music director for In Progress, and holds the residency for Elegantly Wasted Saturdays with Velizar? in NYC.

Astrid Suryanto //
Deep house/Tech house/Techno

John Digweed is just one of the many figures who have been entranced with Astrid contradictory style: fiercely strong yet beautifully delicate, vocals that are simultaneously raw yet polished, heart breaking lyrics set against ecstatically uplifting chords and beats, signing up several releases for his world-famous Bedrock Label. Satoshi Tomiie's SAW Recordings has also fallen for her charms (not surprisingly, given Tomiie's own penchant for sultry, sexy lyrics and seductive dirty music a la Love In Traffic). Recent releases include "Burn" with Nicole Moudaber as Prime 33 on Morrison Recordings, and "To The Top" with her new partner, DJ Yellow (Yellow Productions/Bob Sinclar), on Extrema Recordings' Deep Focus Imprint. These, alongside releases on Statra Recordings, have propelled her repeatedly into the BBC Radio1 Dance Charts, Billboard Dance Charts, Online Dance Charts and successful compilation series alongside leading electronic artists. Her future schedule includes a solo single 'In a Distant Bar' through Morrison Recordings (March 08), as well as a chain of releases through Deep focus, Project, and Ovum Recordings in support of DJ Yellow & Astrid Suryanto's first full length album, "Intermission", due out February 08.

IN PROGRESS COLLABORATORS

Bruce Tantum//
Time Out Club Editor

DJ Bruce Tantum has been involved in the downtown NYC music scene for a long-time; so long, in fact that he and his no-wave minimalist-pop band Moot were regular fixtures at such long-defunct legendary venues as the Mudd Club, Danceteria and the Peppermint Lounge. The band's spectacular non-success led Bruce to toss out his bass guitar and pick up the Technics; he soon began spinning a mix of oddball disco and early house.

Since then, he's played at pretty much every club, lounge and scuzzed-out basement and warehouse that the city has to offer - as well as in London, San Francisco, Miami, Chicago, Switzerland, Belgium and elsewhere - mainly spinning selections from the more dubbed-out end of deep house, tech-house and techno. By day, Bruce can usually be found chained to his desk, toiling away as clubs editor for Time Out NY magazine.Fall On Your Sword //
Electronica

FOYS is the latest creation of Will Bates and James Rickman – a native Londoner and Californian, respectively, who spent the last four years playing in a rock band called the Rinse. In addition to playing all over the city, The Rinse released an album in Japan and toured the US and UK, sharing stages with everyone from Maroon 5 to …And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead. But last year they came to a disturbing realization: no matter how packed a room is, people just don’t dance to rock bands. As this was their main reason for playing music in the first place, Bates and Rickman decided to start over. Bates hauled out the samplers he had used as a London DJ, and Rickman played guitar and sometimes hit the drums as hard as he could. Along the way, their love of classic sci-fi and horror movies entered the mix, which explains their tendency to drop samples from Flash Gordon, Blade Runner and more. With the addition multi-instrumentalist Leo Sidrin, the band was complete. Samplers, synths, guitars and drums are traded between the three members, who also do a lot of shouting into microphones. The mission of FOYS is simple: whether they play in a Bushwick warehouse or a LES club, they will make you dance till sweat stings your eyes and your throat aches from singing along.
