About Me

"Travel is more than the seeing of sights; it is a change that goes on, deep and permanent, in the ideas of living"
I did some travelling for a couple of years and I got back to England not so long ago - not really long enough for me to adjust properly to this culture, which is wildly different from countries I visited like India, and suprisingly different from other western countries like Australia.
Actually, I don't think I want to adjust. That would be a cop out wouldn't it? I've changed a lot and I can't simply change back! I don't want to change back! I'm still into the same sort of things I've always been into - music, movies, reading sci-fi novels and the occasional work of 'literary' fiction, clubbing and partying and that sort of thing - but I don't think I'm so passionate about any of it anymore...
There was a time not so long ago when I spent £200 a month on records and collected videos. Can you imagine, a whole cupboard full of classic movies in an almost redundant format - I mean, what's the point? These days I don't go out and seek that sort of thing, I just let new music and movies come to me in their own good time. So what if I'm not on the cutting edge anymore? So what if I don't know what's new and cool? It doesn't seem so important anymore to surround myself with cool stuff. Maybe I was filling my life with all that cool clutter because I was trying to fill a void in the centre of my it.
Maybe I've finally found a way to fulfill myself outside of the consumer cycle that so much of our culture seems to be built on, or maybe I've just replaced one kind of distraction with another.
Now I collect countries instead of records.
