MY CALENDAR:

As many of you remember, it was less than a year ago when i reached out to all of you to help save my Father's life. And as many of you know, it was YOUR blood donations that gave me 6 extra precious months with my Father...
YOU LITERALLY SAVED MY FATHER'S LIFE AND GAVE ME MORE TIME WITH HIM!
As many of you also know, my Father, my hero, passed away recently after a year long battle with Leukemia, which he overcame insurmountable odds to beat, only to lose his life to a bone marrow transplant. To say that he will be missed seems such an amazing understatement.
Unfortunately, it saddens me deeply because I now I have to reach out to all of you once again. Over the thanksgiving holiday, my aunt had some fainting spells, and after a hospital visit it was revealed that she has the same kind of leukemia that took my Father's life (AML). AML is the worst type of leukemia you can get and the survival rate is under 2%.
My Father had a fighting chance because he was in his 60's and as strog as an ox. But my aunt is older and the chemotherapy will kill her before the leukemia does... so for my aunt, chemotherapy is NOT an option. In her case there is not much we can do except wait this out.
BUT...
she (and our family) wants as much time as possible. The will to survive is AMAZING and even in her 80's, my aunt wants as much time as we can give her.
So we're asking our friends to donate blood.
Here's the deal.... Leukemia is cancer of the blood, so there is no operation to cut out a mass because there is no mass, it's in your blood. and leukemia literally "east your blood". "Blast cells" eat away at your healthy red and white blood cells. So what my aunt needs is blood!
With blood donations it will prolong her life from anywhere from a few weeks to a few months and we all want her around for as long as she can hold out.
Now here's our problem... there are a lot of criteria for donating blood, and one of them is that if you have spent more than 3 months in the UK over the past 6 years, you are not eligible to donate blood. Being that my whole family is from England, we can NOT donate for my aunt, which is heartbreaking for us since we can not help her ourselves.
AND THAT'S WHY WE NEED YOU!
My Aunt's name is Lily Judah and she is at Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, California right now. she has a rare blood type of B Positive. If you, or someone you know is a match, I'd greatly appreciate a donation.

And just so you all know, hospitals need blood donors.. so regardless of your blood type or where you live, there is someone out there who is in need of blood. so even if you can't donate for my Aunt, giving blood is an amazing gift to give.. you're literally giving the gift of life... just some food for thought.
Please forward this bulletin on for my family if you can so that we can find as many donors as possible to prolong my dear aunt's life.
The following are the criteria and information for donating blood:
If you think you can help, please contact "Cedar-Sinai Medical Center" in Los Angeles where my Aunt is being treated, mention my name (Jonathan Jonah) or my Aunt's (Lily Judah) to NINA VINICK who will direct you on what to do:
PHONE: (310) 423-2414, (310) 423-2637, or (310) 423-5346.
ASK TO SPEAK TO: Nina Vinick or tell whoever you talk to that Nina is handling this case and is aware of what to do with people calling for my Aunt. Please tell her that you are calling in regards to donating for Lily Judah!
Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Is Located At:
8700 Beverly Blvd.
Los Angeles, CA 90048
*If you do not live in CA and can not get to Cedars-Sinai where my Aunt is in critical condition, we can not use your donations but you can always donate for others in your home town who need blood. Thank you though.
The following are the requirements you MUST meet to donate blood or platelets, if you do not qualify, there is no need to send me an email and tell me so... i thank you very much for reading and re-posting this bulletin and any help you may be able to offer.
REQUIREMENTS:
To qualify to donate blood or platelets, you must meet ALL the following standards:
-Be at least 17 years of age (no upper limit), healthy, and feel well on day of donation.
-Weigh at least 110 pounds.
-No dental surgery within 72 hours of donation.
-No currently taking antibiotics (except when treating acne).
-Not taking Acutane, Proscar or Propecia within the past 30 days.
-No travel to a malaria zone in the past 12 months.
-No tattoos, ear, or body piercing within the past twelve months.
-Cancer free during last five years and have never received chemotherapy. OK to donate if treated for localized skin cancer.
-Never Use intravenous drugs
-No history of hepatitis or HIV (AIDS).
-No close contact with someone who has hepatitis
-Cannot donate if you have:
-Spent a combined total of 3 months of more in the United Kingdom between 1980 and 1996.
-Spent a combined total of 5 years or more in Europe since 1980 to the present (including time spent in the UK from 1980-1996).
-Resided on a US military base in Europe for 6 months or more from 1980 - 1996
-Male donors must not have had sex with another male (even once) since 1977.
Donors CAN donate if: They have diabetes, high blood pressure, and/or high cholesterol, IF THEY ARE CONTROLLED BY MEDICATION AND DIET.
PLATELET DONORS ONLY: Do not take aspirin or products containing aspirin within 2 days of donation.
Lastly, there is no need to respond to this bulletin. I have not been on myspace and have pages and pages of unread emails. I will not get a chance to look at my emails until my Aunt's condition stabilizes a bit and I don't know how long that will take. So please do not be offended if i have not responded to one of your emails, ALL of my time is being devoted to my family right now.
If you can help, call the hospital and set up an appointment ASAP... If you don't know your blood type, they will tell you what it is when you go in for your appointment. And if you're blood type does not match my Aunt's, donating blood is very helpful and there are many others out there who WILL be able to use your blood. It is a very rewarding feeling to help. So donate regardless!
I will not be online answering emails with questions about donating blood because I spend all day every day at the hospital with my family. So please direct ALL of your questions to Nina at the hospital when you call.
Thank you ALL so much for your overwhelming support though this. Everyone has been so great! If you can please help, my family and I would be MOST grateful!
Please pray for my family!
-Jonathan
