About Me

I have a habit of rubbing my lower lip. And staring off into space for short periods of time, but doing it frequently. And literally stomping my foot when I'm angry. I think I must be a cartoon character.
I like things that are extremely silly, and I try to spend a good part of my day being silly. It helps that I surround myself with children for my career.
I have a daughter now, Claire, and she's the best thing ever. Really ever. I've never been happier. I live and breathe this girl, and it's wonderful. I always knew I wanted to be a mom someday, but I had no idea how great it would be. I feel like the luckiest person on earth now that Claire is here.

My Interests

My daughter, being a mom, education, music, languages, cooking, wine, the World.

I'd like to meet:

Well, anyone nice. And anyone who likes PJ Harvey. If you're nice and you like PJ, even better!Hmmm.... Scratch that. Even meanies can have good taste. And I've had my fill of meanies. So, anyone nice, and that's all.

Music:

Yes! I tend to like a lot of female singer/songwriter types but not on purpose. I'm not sexist. Some of my favorites are PJ Harvey, Fiona Apple, Sarah Harmer, Sarah Slean, Sarah McLachlan, Bjork, Rachael Yamagata, Eisley, Iron & Wine, The White Stripes, Arcade Fire, Heather Nova (although lately she kind of sucks), Leona Naess, Andrew Bird, Poe, Tanya Donelly, Julia Darling, Tori Amos (but only old Tori, don't like anything new), Feist, Keren Ann.

Movies:

I like very recent movies, or very very old movies, and not much in between. Except Monty Python movies, because they are silly. Recent favorites were Amelie, Lost in Translation, and Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. By very very old movies, I mean silents. Metropolis is so beautiful it makes me cry, and I love Charlie Chaplin films, and even better, Buster Keaton films. That man, wow!!!

Television:

Eeeek! I got addicted to Lost! Me and the rest of the world, I think. I also watch Medium, and The Amazing Race when it's one. Top Chef too.

Books:

Barbara Kingsolver is my favorite author. Everything by her is great! I think Prodigal Summer is my favorite, but The Poisonwood Bible is pretty amazing. And I adore Animal Dreams. Tough to choose.

Heroes:

Parents who've done a great job raising their children.

My Blog

Sarah Harmer!

Last night we did something that I've wanted to do for a long time now. We saw Sarah Harmer play live. I've been a fan since I heard "Basement Apartment" on Live365 somewhere in 2000. I soon after ...

Could it be an update?

Hi out there.  Long time no blog.  I've been fine.  Just not very interested in being online much lately.  I've been neglecting all my usual haunts.  I don't know why, I just ...

It's definitely wrong about high self control

I took this personality quiz because Ally did and why I shouldn't I do whatever Ally does?  This is what it said about me: Stability results were moderately high which suggests you are relaxed,...

Back to school for you

Here are some pictures of my classroom from October, just about three weeks into our school year. I was very excited about my classroom at the new school. It's really much nicer than any room I've had...

The "Look ma!" post

Look ma,  I got my senior portrait for my high school yearbook! A couple months ago, Robert got a new light.  It's a very bright light.  He asked me to pose so he could try it out.&nbs...

manipulation

The other night, Matty was trying to talk me into sharing some of my salmon with him. I declined, a good number of times, pushing him away and saying, "NO!" Finally, he walked a few feet away from m...

an extraordinary machine

I loved the Fiona Apple concert. Loved it. She was so good. I forgave her completely for fucking up her last album. I couldn't help it, she just won me over with her, her... just herself. The performa...

Wednesday

Thanksgiving plays with the kids.  They did two plays, I directed and I invited everyone, including the principal.  Honestly, they kind of sucked as actors, but they're only seven so it's OK...

Too bad the weather here still thinks it's summer

And there goes another week.  It's amazing how they just peel off.  All summer felt like forever.  The days went on and on and the months took years to pass.  Now I am surpris...

I got paid yesterday, and so did my husband.  Feeling rich as I am, I think I'll go out shopping.  I think I'll buy some new jeans.  How about these, a steal at only $120?  Good l...
