Jerry Yates (The Gospel Troubadour)

About Me

Jerry Yates hails from the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina; a little spot on the New River, called Fleetwood, just minutes away from Deep Gap, home of guitar great, Doc Watson. Jerry's grandmother and the father of popular NBC TV celebrity, Willard Scott, were sister and brother, making Jerry and Willard cousins. "Jerry's musical talents make me proud to be able to call him my cousin. Any Church or other organization would be well served by his musical abilities" said Mr. Scott. Jerry's family moved to Fairburn, GA., in 1961. Jerry's early musical influences were Elvis, Johnny Cash, and later, John Fogerty. A seventh grade class talent show was his first public perofrmance, singing and playing guitar, which he continued to do throughout high school. After Jerry graduated from high school in 1970, he embarked on a career in radio broadcasting. During that time, the future minister performed in several rock and country bands, playing a circuit of honky tonks and juke joints around the South. He later became a popular and sought after Elvis impersonator, until he became a Christian in 1975. In 1978, Jerry heard the audible voice of God say, "I want you to preach!" So he promptly took his Bible in one hand, and his guitar in the other, and set out to go wherever the Holy Spirit would lead him.Jerry was led to become a solo, acoustic Gospel artist, with a Country Blues and Rockabilly style, mixed with an occasional Old-Time number. He has recieved nominations for "New Male Vocalist of the Year"and the "Trailblazer" award; He was awarded the "New Male Vocalist of the Year"award from Georgia, in 1994, by the International Country Gospel Music Association. In May, 2007, Jerry received the "Emerald Award" to recognize the achievement of having one of the most played songs on radio, during the month of April. That same song,"There's Peace From the Lord", also went to Number one on the Roots Music Association's, Roots Music Report chart, for Georgia artists of all genres of music, which is no small feat, but one in which Jerry gives God the credit!Although his songs are Christian or Gospel, Rev. Yates does include a few secular "Oldies" from the 1950's and early 60's Rock 'N' Roll and Country era, changing a lyric or two, to mention something about Jesus. "The purpose for this", he says, "is because my primary mission is to try to reach the "Blue Collar Worker"of the "Baby Boomer" generation, as well as the previous generation, who are unchurched, or who might attend church, but don't like it. I just want them to know that being a Christian does not mean having fun is a thing of the past, nor does all the music have to come from the 18th century!" RhonBob Promotions, of Kodak, Tennessee, takes care of all aspects of promoting Rev. Jerry's songs to radio for airplay, including press releases, and anything else that will help keep the ministry of Jerry Yates Ministries in the hearts and minds of people everywhere. We believe that there is only one God, and that He is eternally existent in three persons--Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.3. We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious atoning death on the cross, through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of God the Father Almighty, and in His personal return in power and glory.4. We believe that regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential for the salvation of sinful man.5. We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live an obedient life.6. We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in Christ, and that the Church is the Body of Christ instituted by God.We are here because of the Great Commission of Jesus Christ.
