Red Murphy began in mid 2005 in an old 200 year old house out in the stix. Three guys(Jeff Smith, Brad Edwards and Joey Rivers) just doing what they do. The band evolved over the next year or so and saw many members come and go. They had not yet been able to find a truly creative and talented guitar player since Brad had left the band in late 2005.. That changed in late 06/early 07, when Josh Inman joined the group. In early 2007, Jeff Smith, Josh Inman, Scott Mckee, Matt Penton and Kevin Huett, with the help of front man Jacob Lynam from the Birmingham favorite "Lynam," and Jason Elgin of Synchromesh, released the first professional recordings of the band and they began playing throughout the state, showcasing the songs they had recorded as well as songs that have yet to be released.
With less than ten formal practices together Red Murphy made their mark in Birmingham throughout 2007, winning the hearts of fans from all areas of the state. A red Murphy show was a party....nothing less.
Red murphy can be heard .. radio stations across the United States, as well as XM radio, and for a few months in the summer of 2007, Don't say it's over had it's fair share of air time on the X(Birmingham/Tuscaloosa).
In March of 2008, the band decided to take a step back and regroup due to Job situations, a lack of time for practice and the completion of their album that had been sceduled for release by the end of 2007, but had not been given proper attention due to their busy show schedule in '07.
In the meantime, while the band regroups and decides which direction to take while completing their Album, Brad Edwards, one of the original members before the band was known as Red Murphy has teamed up with lead singer Jeff Smith for a series of acoustic shows beginning in June 2008.
Stay tuned.... more to come....
