LIFE IS JUST A HOBBY...MUSIC IS EVERYTHING I was born in chicago, illinois, My parents, Miguel and Maria are from Mexican descent. My ancestors: the Chavez family go way back in the 1880's from Galicia, Spain. They came to Mexico in search of a better life. My parents came to the US in 1960, and I am the first generation born proudly in the USA. I went to Hamline grammar school and then to the Catholic St Augustine school. when I was 11, I went to mexico to live with my grandparents and there I attended school. In mexico I did HS and college until 1992. Then I went into the seminary to become a priest, but I decided to leave the Seminary. Then I came back to the States in 1995. In 1998 went back to mexico to UAG to study medicine and graduated in 2002. ...Music is something that I was born with. I grew up listening to the beatles, kiss and some Latin music. I picked up the guitar when I was 12 years old. and started to really playing a lot of songs. It was 1991 the year that changed my life forever: Nirvana's nevermind album was a hit in the world. I was blown away by kurt's genious. That inspired me to form a band and play rock songs.Then I was in some bands playing guitar. In 1996 I heard some guitar player in the radio, he was playing these strange tunes, and it was: Joe Satriani, his style and technique influenced my playing. With this kind of music I developed a different approach and variety in my musical style. Then came Dream theater, Vai, Yngwie, etc, those type of artists are my personal heroes.Then FRANK ZAPPA came along and change my life forever, is just the complex and difficulty of his music that inspires me to write music. I like what is called: Nueva Trova, it's a type of music that emerged from Cuba, something like folk music, but in spanish. Silvio Rodriguez is like the Latin Bob Dylan to me.I think that every music geek has to have some classical music inspiration. Vivaldi, Beethoven, Paganini , Mozart, Stravinsky, Varese and Bach made the most perfect music the human ears could ever hear...Here are my music achievements so far:1991: 15th place in a Folk festival in Mexico. I did a song with a friend Humberto Jimenez called: Por un mundo mejor (For a better world). 1992: participated in a Vocational festival for the seminary with a song I wrote called: Siguelo (Follow him). 1992: I won 1st place in a High School talent show. It was with 1 guy and 8 girls. We did a song called: Alma , corazon y vida (soul, heart and life). 1994: I won 12th place in the Concurso de la cancion vocacional in Mexico, with a song that I co-wrote with a talented musician: Enrique vidrio. The song was called: Sigue a Cristo (follow Christ). In Mexico, I attended at (Conservatorio de Musica),School of Music with FR. Estrella, where I studied music theory, gregorian chant and popular music,and also some composition. As you can see, I have a wide interest in musical styles,. Music, to me is universal, it does not have languaje barriers, it does not discriminate.
