About Me

whateverlife.com I'm just a girl trying to make it through each day without doing anything really stupid. If nothing bad happens, I consider it to be a good day.

e.e. cummings - in time of daffodils
in time of daffodils(who know
the goal of living is to grow)
forgetting why,remember how
in time of lilacs who proclaim
the aim of waking is to dream,
remember so(forgetting seem)
in time of roses(who amaze
our now and here with paradise)
forgetting if,remember yes
in time of all sweet things beyond
whatever mind may comprehend,
remember seek(forgetting find)
and in a mystery to be
(when time from time shall set us free)
forgetting me,remember me
A VALEDICTION FORBIDDING MOURNING
by John Donne
AS virtuous men pass mildly away,
And whisper to their souls to go,
Whilst some of their sad friends do say,
"Now his breath goes," and some say, "No."
So let us melt, and make no noise,
5 No tear-floods, nor sigh-tempests move ;
'Twere profanation of our joys
To tell the laity our love.
Moving of th' earth brings harms and fears ;
Men reckon what it did, and meant ;
10 But trepidation of the spheres,
Though greater far, is innocent.
Dull sublunary lovers' love
—Whose soul is sense—cannot admit
Of absence, 'cause it doth remove
15 The thing which elemented it.
But we by a love so much refined,
That ourselves know not what it is,
Inter-assurèd of the mind,
Care less, eyes, lips and hands to miss.
20
Our two souls therefore, which are one,
Though I must go, endure not yet
A breach, but an expansion,
Like gold to aery thinness beat.
If they be two, they are two so
25 As stiff twin compasses are two ;
Thy soul, the fix'd foot, makes no show
To move, but doth, if th' other do.
And though it in the centre sit,
Yet, when the other far doth roam,
30 It leans, and hearkens after it,
And grows erect, as that comes home.
Such wilt thou be to me, who must,
Like th' other foot, obliquely run ;
Thy firmness makes my circle just,
35 And makes me end where I begun.
THE FOOL'S PRAYER
- Edward Rowland Sill
HE royal feast was done; the King
Sought some new sport to banish care,
And to his jester cried: "Sir Fool,
Kneel now, and make for us a prayer!"
The jester doffed his cap and bells,
And stood the mocking court before;
They could not see the bitter smile
Behind the painted grin he wore.
He bowed his head, and bent his knee
Upon the Monarch's silken stool;
His pleading voice arose: "O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!
"No pity, Lord, could change the heart
From red with wrong to white as wool;
The rod must heal the sin: but Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!
"'T is not by guilt the onward sweep
Of truth and right, O Lord, we stay;
'T is by our follies that so long
We hold the earth from heaven away.
"These clumsy feet, still in the mire,
Go crushing blossoms without end;
These hard, well-meaning hands we thrust
Among the heart-strings of a friend.
"The ill-timed truth we might have kept--
Who knows how sharp it pierced and stung?
The word we had not sense to say--
Who knows how grandly it had rung!
"Our faults no tenderness should ask.
The chastening stripes must cleanse them all;
But for our blunders -- oh, in shame
Before the eyes of heaven we fall.
"Earth bears no balsam for mistakes;
Men crown the knave, and scourge the tool
That did his will; but Thou, O Lord,
Be merciful to me, a fool!"
The room was hushed; in silence rose
The King, and sought his gardens cool,
And walked apart, and murmured low,
"Be merciful to me, a fool!"

Music:

I think that most music is pretty shitty because it's so easy now to make records that the quality has suffered enormously. I like some country like Rascall Flatts, and eighties dance music like the Barkays. Pretty much every boy band ever. GOOD rap like Jedi Mind Tricks, Atmosphere, Aesop Rock, Living Legends. Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, the Used, Yellowcard...

Movies:

John Waters movies! Everyone should see Pink Flamingoes. Snakes on a Plane, Sin City, Batman Begins, American Psycho, the 300, X-men, and anything gross and funny.

Television:

I love tv. I worship Grey's Anatomy and Law and Order:SVU. I also enjoy South Park quite a bit, and the Chelsea Handler show, and even the occasional COPS episode to laugh at the people spracked out of their minds and not shocked at all that they've ended up on COPS.

Books:

I like anything by Joyce Carol Oates, Barbara Kingsolver, John Douglas, John Steinbeck, Zora Neale Hurston, Toni Morrison. I love poetry, from John Donne to Veronica Shoffstall. I think e.e. cummings is one of the greatest poets of all time, his work is genius. I don't think anything conveys emotion as well as poetry, though art is pretty close. I love to read, and would pick books over TV anytime, if I had the time to do nothing all day.

Heroes:

My family, Tay, Jamie, Haley, Camille Pocock.
