I have been called to preach!! Can you believe it?? Bob Benson wrote, “So I understand easily why it appears that I am both an implausible and illogical choice. I can only say that if it seems that way to those who know me only a little bit, how much more does it seem to me knowing all that I know about me? But fortunately, my being chosen does not grow out of me. I am just a choosee.â€Demetrius A. Greer was born in Cleveland Ohio, in 1979. In 1988, he moved to Rockford, IL along with his mother and younger brother. On Friday August 9, 1991 at 8:30pm, he voluntarily moved in with his aunt and uncle due to extenuating circumstances in his home environment. He purports, I just knew I had to leave if I was going to grow. It was in the home of his relatives that he was officially introduced to his destiny, music. He began organ lessons at the age of 14, and also learned as much as he could from his cousins, other church musicians, and anyone else who would share. He wrote his first song, Learning How To Say Goodbye, just before heading off to college in 1997. In learning how to say goodbye, he learned how to say hello to the power of songwriting as a therapeutic release and creative outlet. While at NIU, Demetrius formed many alliances and had numerous opportunities to forward his progress as a talented songwriter, producer, and musician. He is very grateful for the experiences he was afforded at Mirror Image Sounds Studios, North Ave Baptist Church, and in the band, Motif. I developed so much while working in those settings, and found life-long friends in the process, Demetrius offers.Since returning to Rockford, Demetrius has purchased a house and built a personal project studio in his basement where he continues to manufacture hits for today and tomorrow. In December 2005, his property was infiltrated and several of his weapons of mass construction were stolen. God taught me a lesson: if I didnt want to use what he had allowed me to have to HIS GLORY, Id be better off without it. Once Demetrius totally turned his gifts over to the Lord, all items were recovered unscathed. On January 1st 2006, Pastor James Washington asked Demetrius to be the minister of music for JOY Unlimited (youth church of St. Paul COGIC). He immediately accepted this position, as something else I know Im SaPose2 do. I already have the tools, resources, and talent to complete this commission. On March 12th, 2006 JOY Unlimited had their first concert since Demetrius inception to their ministry. Two of his original songs were presented at this concert, one co-written with Renee Kent (an artist the world will be seeing and hearing from shortly). My goal while working with this choir is for them to perform at least 80% original music, and I dont plan on writing all of it. I know there are young people in this choir who are talented writers and producers. They just need an opportunity to do what theyre SaPose2. I want everyone who wants to be heard unto the glory of God be heard. Why do we have to always wait for the next Kurt Franklin CD to drop as the cue for what songs to add to our repertoire? I say the world should look to us, as we look within to find the voice of God.Personally, Im trying to build an empire. I want my childrens childrens children to eat off of the legacy God is putting together through me. I want to be able to live freely and help people who are less fortunate than I am. Music will free my hands, energy, and resources to be able to do this on a very large scale. And this we will do, if God permit, Hebrews 6:3
