Born into a Spanish/Portuguese family in Melbourne, 1987, DeRio follows the same clique of a long line of singers; that he is destined to have a successful music career.His father, a talented singer/songwriter passed on the genes to his oldest son. Recording his first single at just 4 years old, Rio had his first taste of a studio and that made him hungry. The track was a cover Michael Jacksons 'I'll Be There', one of Rio's favourite artists and musical influences, others including: kanYe West, Craig David and Lauryn Hill.As Rio grew, so did his desire for the world to hear his music, performing on any stage he could find, using every opportunity to get behind that microphone. Whether it was the local sporting club, council functions, RSL clubs or on local Spanish television programs he would always draw a crowd with his soulful and majestic sound.
At the ripe old age of twelve, Rio formed a pop group with his cousin expressively named Kuzzinz, again delivering performances at any chance they could, predominantly at functions within the Spanish community. Kuzzinz, who were often the subject of discussion on local radio and television stations, performed such hits as Could Be, Morena and Mueve Te.
Recording his demo EP Pages has been an enlightening experience for Rio who says "I want this EP to reflect not only who I am as an artist, but who I am as a person. I want to have hardcore club anthems yet still have those tracks that just...lyrically blow you away" he says with a grin. "I’m lucky to have such a talented producer and co-writers involved...", not forgetting his father George who wrote the inspiring Dreamin'.
Utilizing Melbourne songwriters Multitrak Enterainment, the new EP comprises of crunk style club hits such as 'So Damn Fly' and 'Want More', with the kanYe-esque 'Pages' setting a different tone and the heartfelt 'I Dont Want U' is sure to draw a tear or two.
So keep your ears tuned to the speakers and your drinks tightly braced against your chest because DeRio is set to make some noise.
