About Me

Often others wonder why people are war-like. First, not all "people" are "war-like" by our definition of war. Certainly every human is prone to conflict no matter what your culture or background but that doesn't necessarily mean war, but it does mean competition (and sometimes fighting).
I always hear people saying things like, "Animals aren't like that, animals aren't war-like. They don't just kill each other in cold blood." This assertion is incorrect. If you watch any nature program you'll find that within species groups there is often a lot of violence. Dolphins mindlessly kill other dolphins, orangutans carry on large offenses against other groups (often with lots of destruction and raping of females). It's not exclusive to mammals either, this is really true of every animal group. In ecology this is called intra-species competition.
The basic concept is that any two animals competing for the exact same resources (the same food types, the same lands, and the same mates) will eventually clash. They won't necessarily attack (or even kill when they attack) every animal that fits in that category, only the few necessary and manageable. This serves to promote one's own gene pool and has the side effect of population control.
So in that sense, people are like any other animal. There will always be conflict.
But conflict isn't always war.
So what's war? War is the product of our culture and similar cultures. It is not a product of humanity in general, but only a small percentage of all of the cultural styles on the planet (no matter how many people may subscribe to them). War is the result of many things, "government", "religion", "nationalism", but these are not the root cause. They are only a symptom of an even bigger underlying idea. The idea is simply this: "There is only one right way to live and we have it." By extension every other way of living must be "wrong" and therefore removed.
So here's the million dollar idea: There is no one right way to live.

My Interests

Music (playing/writing and listening), philosophy, cooking (love to cook), reading (lots and lots), drawing and graphic design, editing web pages for fun, going out for coffee and a movie on my days off, writing short stories that I never finish, going out late at night for odd things (medicine, food, etc... rarely during the day), and... well, I take ballet classes. It's fun and good exercise. And I get to hang around bendy girls. Erg.... extra personal info there!
