About Me

SolSkye consists of two Washington D.C. natives, currently residing in Nagoya, Japan. Their music is a blend many genres of electronica with vocals, and live instruments consisting of- saxophone, and the rarely heard, 'shakuhachi' (japanese bamboo flute), which is one of the hardest instruments in the world to master and provides them with an epic, eclectic addition to the mix. Enjoy the wide array of styles SolSkye has to offer.
Taro Alexander (Writer/Producer/Sound Engineering/Lead Vocals) (Solskye, Washington D.C./Japan)
Taro an American Washington DC Native has studied, contemporary, and classical Japanese music. He became part of the American Washington D.C. club scene at the age of twelve and fell in love with the music and never looked back. Taro has a passion for music, which spans over all genres and musical instruments. Taro's primarily focus is on vocal performance. However his true passion exists in playing the Japanese Shakuhachi bamboo flute which was first a gift given to him from his uncle in Japan. Taro has now played the Shakuhachi for fourteen years. In those fourteen years Taro has played with both classical and modern Japanese music groups consisting of Koto and Shamisen accompaniments. Currently, Taro has merged his musical writing to consist of not only his love for electronic music but also classical, shakuhachi method. With best friend and partner Dan O’Brien they have created the music group (Solskye)
Taro’s musical methodology is simply put, “There is music alive in every existence of our lives and this world, everyone is a musician we just choose to listen or not, if you listen to the world’s music it will set you free.”
Dan O'Brien (Writer/Producer/Sound Engineering/Vocals)(Solskye, Washington D.C./ Japan)
This Washington DC Native has always had a passion for music. He has been trained in classical and Jazz Saxophone. He made his break into the music scene six years ago through Djing. He may have started out Djing in Washington D.C. clubs with his best friend Taro but they soon started to add the live shakuhachi element and it evolved into 'SolSkye' from there. Now in Japan, with a completely original organic sound to call their own they can finally put the records up on the shelf. Dan hopes that through SolSkye's music they can change peoples state of mind. His electronic music methodology comes from the influences of a wide variety of artists and genres.
"Music has given me purpose and hope in life, I just wish to share that same feeling sparked in me long ago. In the world of music, it's always good to push the boundries of yourself and what makes you feel comfortable because, lets face it, stagnation in music isn't music." -Dan
