Dan

I'd rather have a frontal lobotomy than a bottle in front of me.

About Me

Secular humanist.

My Interests

Sincerity, vintage Italian scooters and the thrash.

I practice Jiu-Jitsu and mixed martial arts poorly.

I also make films, poorly.

Straightedge - 13 years.

I'd like to meet:

Readers.

Music:

You are a Thrasher. It's all about the
thrash metal scene of the 80s, and paying
attention to all the shit in the world
authority doesn't want you to see. You're down
with anything that upholds the principles of
the Almighty Riff, but those weak-ass
synthesizers piss you off to no end. A metal
show is more than just music, it's Good
Friendly Violent Fun - the pit is your second
home. You're generally cool with anyone who
respects you, but nothing pisses you off like
pretentious wankers - and of course, the hated
POSEURS.
What Kind of Metalhead Are You?

Movies:

Anything directed by Akira Kurosawa, David Cronenberg, Takashi Miike, Lars Von Trier or R.W. Fassbinder is worth my time. I hate all of your token movies (Amelie, American Beauty, American History X, Kill Bill, Boondock Saints, Natural Born Killers et al), sorry about that. Feel free to unleash your hatred on my favorite movies: DOGVILLE, Why Does Herr R. Run Amok?, Chopper, Dead Ringers, Beware of a Holy Whore, Audition, Birth, The Third Man, The Revolution Will Not Be Televised, Dead Alive, Mean Streets, Bad Taste, Naked, Once Upon a Time In The West, The Battle of Algiers, Taxi Driver, Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2:Dead By Dawn, Army of Darkness, Heart of Glass, Sheer Madness, Slither, Aguirre: Wrath of God, Robocop, Desperate Living, Bad Lieutenant, The Fly (Cronenberg), eXistenZ, Palindromes, La Strada, Audition, My Best Fiend, Toxic Avenger Series, The Rules of Attraction, UHF, Boogie Nights, Fitzcarraldo, River's Edge, Kentucky Fried Movie, Yojimbo, Super Troopers, Straw Dogs, Le Cercle Rouge, Stroszek, Matewan, Kids In The Hall: Brain Candy, The Yes Men , Get Carter (original w/Michael Caine), Little Otik, Drunken Angel, Crash, Goodfellas, Videodrome, Battle Royale, Office Space, Freeway, Dawn of the Dead, Night of the Living Dead, Return of the Living Dead, 28 Days Later, Fargo, A Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove, Barton Fink, Katzelmacher, Veronika Voss, Happiness, Stranger Than Paradise, Storytelling, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Ghost Dog, Wild At Heart, Paths of Glory, Dog Soldiers, Big Lebowski, Bubba Ho-Tep, Caché, The New World, Manderlay and of course Ghost Dad, Leonard Part 6, and TMNT 2: Secret of the Ooze. And here are a couple movies that I appreciate, but may never have the stomach to watch again: The Piano Teacher, Ichi The Killer, Brown Bunny, Irreversable, Cries and Whispers, and Fox And His Friends. P.S. As a side note, Oliver Stone and Michael Bay should be shot...Pass it on. Also I just decided that I hate Donnie Darko - I've had it.

Television:

Any show that co-opts stereotypical gay culture and any of the new crop of sitcoms which revolve entirely around hilarious ethnic jokes - basically anything that perpetuates ignorance in order to entertain idiotic midwestern Americans such as myself; fuck yeah, I'm gonna go watch "Those Crazy Queers" and "Whoopi Goldberg &; Luis Guzman's Racial Misunderstanding Jamboree" right now! Also if it features stories that are "ripped from the headlines" you'll have trouble "ripping me from my television", Jay Leno told me that those shows contain better writing than most motion pictures and I believe everything he says wholeheartedly.

Books:

Anything by Graham Greene (especially The Quiet American and Brighton Rock, the screen treatment of The Fallen Idol is hot too), Melanie Rae Thon (one of my new favorites) - "Sweet Hearts" and "First, Body", T.C. Boyle (Tortilla Curtain is as important as books get - read the fuck out of it), Raymond Carver, Anthony Burgess when he chooses to tone down the academic wankery and tell a story, both "Crash" and "Concrete Island" by J.G. Ballard, George Saunders rules my world - "Civilwarland In Bad Decline" &; "Pastoralia" (his new one was lousy), Eric Begosian's "Mall", Flannery O'Connor's "Wise Blood" and "The Violent Bear it Away", Denis Johnson's "Jesus' Son" and "Angels", Craig Nova's "Incandescence", "Turkey Hash" and "The Geek", Lords of Chaos, John Fante's "Ask The Dust" and "Road to Los Angeles", Don Dellilo's "White Noise", The Necronomicon by the Mad Arab Abdul Alhazred, John Kennedy Toole's "A Confederacy of Dunces", James Ellroy's "My Dark Places", find a good book and I'll read the shit out of it. Unfortunately I also tend to hate all of your token books: 1984, Brave New World, Catcher in the Rye, Chuck Palahniuk stuff (used to think he was alright but I'm fuckin' sick of his uber-masculine yet sensitive and vulnerable derivative bullshit - he's really not as clever as you think, seriously.)...please don't be offended, instead just ask me why and maybe we'll have a good talk...that goes for anything else too. I need to read more Faulkner, Wittgenstein, Heidegger(sp), Sade, Alfred Jarry and W.Somerset Maugham. Pretty soon I'm gonna crack open Aleister Crowly's "Diary of Drug Fiend". Yup, it's not as cool as TV or smoking, but readin' is pretty sweet.

Heroes:

Chai Vang, Leonard Peltier, Assata Shakur, anyone else who shoots rednecks and/or cops. Anyone who fights back.
