As artisanal, sustainable, and other “foodie” terms make their way into the d ining vernacular, restaurant-goers are paying as much attention to their cocktail sna cks as they are multi course meals. Horizon Restaurant and Lounge takes every bite seriously, whether it’s a selection of charcuterie, a rack of lamb, or an herb fried chicken. And with a full burger menu that features myriad meats, cheeses, and other toppings to choose from, even from the standby American sandwich gets the gourmet treatment.“We wanted to create a relaxed space where every dish is done deliberately, freshly and above all deliciously. Whether it’s a casual bite with a cocktail, an easy supper or a full blown occasion, we’re making sure the meal is remarkable.” Says consulting chef Ola Fendert of Oola Restaurant and Bar and of the now open Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant. In addition to designing Horizon’s menu, Fendert will manage the restaurant with Executive Chef Ivan Tam, formerly of Pres a Vi.Starters Include Seasonal Salads like Heirloom Tomatoes and Green Beans with Mozzarella and Aged Balsamic Vinaigrette, Braised Ribs with Mac and Cheese and assortments of charcuterie and cheese. Sliders are the perfect answer to social snacks: they come three to an order in beef, lamb and turkey varieties. Entrée feature classic comfort foods such as Roasted-Half Chicken with Arugula and Aioli and Niman Ranch Skirt Steak with fries and Bearnaise Sauce. Highlights from the dessert menu include Temptations Brandied Cherry Cheesecake, Lemon Verbena Crème Brule and Flourless Chocolate Torte with Coffee Crème Anglaise.Proving that burgers are a dish with nearly limitless possibilities, Horizon offers a burger menu that reads like an epicurean grocery list. Choosing between Cheddar and Swiss never seemed so simple. Diners at Horizon first select from over 8 kinds of meat, including three types of beef, HiHo Farms Lamb, and Petaluma Chicken Filet. Vegetarian friendly Tofu and Portabella Mushroom Burgers are available too. The burger’s “foundation” is another key piece, and brioche, sesame, whole wheatand foccacia are all on offer. Cheese go beyond the usual suspects to include Truffle, while “other stuff” like oyster mushrooms, applewood smoked bacon take the sandwich to another level. There’s even an option of a Half Grilled Lobster to top off the custom created sandwich.“We’re taking every dish seriously. While gourmet burgers are definitely a trend, our concern is that there’s a complexity to everything on the menu. Kobe beef is great, but why stop there? Who says you can’t have fresh sautéed spinach or even lobster with your burger?”Mark Bright, sommelier of Local Kitchen and Wine Merchant and Oola Restaurant and Bar, handpicked the restaurant’s wine list. The cocktail menu features freshly made cocktails like Basil and Honey Daquiri with fresh basil leaves, white rum, honey and freshly squeezed lime juice and a jalapeno Bloody Mary with fresh organic tomato juice, premium vodka., lemon juice Worcestershire and wedges of jalapeno chiles.Horizon is divided into lounge and dining areas. Modern furnishings create a clean, sleek feel throughout. The combination of low and high tables provide a place to rest plates and drinks, and contribute to the upscale diner atmosphere. All are welcome to sidle up to the bar where contemporary steel and leather stools face the bartenders and cooks.
