I want to share pancakes at midnight with Amy and David Sedaris and brunch with Tim Gunn while he reads me the Sunday New York Times. I also have a geek-girl crush on Reza Aslan, but my love/lust for him extends beyond the desire to share breakfast.
Liz Phair (the real one, not the radio-friendly pop tart who took over her body sometime around the turn of the century), Sleater-Kinney (rip), Beth Orton, Ivy, Tanya Donnelly (with or without the Breeders or Belly), Tegan and Sara, PJ Harvey, Neko Case, Jean Grae, and Dolly Parton.
Gone with the Wind, Henry and June, The Unbearable Lightness of Being, The Hours, Virgin Suicides, House of Yes, and quirky documentaries about any fringe of society...I also have a thing for teen girl movies like Bring It On, Ten Things I Hate About You, Drop Dead Gorgeous, and Sugar and Spice. Yes, I am very ashamed of myself.
Buffy, Gilmore Girls, Daily Show, Strangers with Candy, Veronica Mars, Sex and the City, the OC, Project Runway, America's Next Top Model (and now the Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency),the Simpsons, Futurama, the L Word, the Office, and just about anything on the Food Network (it's food porn!).
It would take too long to list specific books, so here's a (somewhat) random sampling of authors...Sylvia Plath, Anne Sexton, Mary Gaitskill, Sarah Vowell, Maggie Estep, Donna Tartt, Naomi Wolf, David Sedaris, and Jeffrey Eugenides (if you haven't read Middlesex yet, consider this notice of your assignment from me. It's one of the best books I've read in years).
