About Me

I'm still in the process of reinventing myself. It may seem that I am somewhat contrived at times; well, it's probably true. The year, which I have realigned to span from April to March, is yet to end... and yet, what a year it has been. If you're wondering about the April marker--no, it's not some crazy religious thing; my ex dumped me last April. What?! you say. Everyone gets dumped (much as everyone takes dumps), get over it, right! Well, that's the thing; I am getting over it. But, in trying every which way to put the whole damn thing behind me, I've denied the incredible importance the whole event played in my life. To say that I was one person before and one person after is both an understatement and an overstatement. Being dumped instigated a chain of events which brought me to the lowest point in my life. I'll spare you the details, but suffice to say, I never want to revisit those chapters EVER. I endured a darkness both personal and profound, the lingering malaise of which I am still wading through. However, in this time, I witnessed some of the most profound kindness, the effects of which I fear I may never be the equal. After all of this, I feel that whatever person I was, most of it has been ground down, left ragged and unproduced. But, at the core of myself, I sense new dreams and ones less directed. I feel the currents of the unknown coursing through my future, and I feel the pull to experience every moment as a chance for something new and exciting. In short, I've learned to stop viewing life as an invasion on my plans.

My Interests

Reading. Writing long, meandering profiles about myself (seriously, I'm only moderately vain). Politics and current events. Comedy. Learning about the places and the people I live around. Walking the city, block by block.

I'd like to meet:

Well I'm single again, so if you're a hot young gay guy, move to the front of the queue. Seriously, I may be tender and audibly emotional, but you know, we all get an itch from time to time. ;-)I'd like some new drinking buddies. Single gay life dictates that I hit the bars from time to time. I'd also like to meet someone who goes fishing, as it's been years for me.Plus, I'd like to meet someone with a hobby. I tinker here and there, but beyond reading, I don't really have much in the way of a hobby.

Music:

Coconut Records, Sea Wolf, Lets Go Sailing, Robyn, Regina Spektor, My Morning Jacket, Maximo Park, Plain White T's, Great Northern, The Bird and the Bee, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Clap Your Hands and Say Yeah, Dandy Warhols, The Doves, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Decemberists, The Dears, A Perfect Circle, Atom & His Package, Belle and Sebastian, Bran Van 3000, Le Tigre, Nellie McKay, The Streets, Patti Smith, The Avalanches, Aimee Mann, Zero 7, Imogene Heap, Counting Crows, Moloko, Sigur Ros, Gillian Welch, Gordon Lightfoot, Live, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Mary Chapin Carpenter, Patty Griffin, The Joel Streeter Band, and The Good, the Bad and the Queen.

Movies:

I'll give you my top five, in no particular order: Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (moreso than the first two... and yes, I'm extremely pumped over the new one they are making), Boys Don't Cry (Hillary Swank is truly one of the most remarkable actors of this decade), Steel Magnolias (...all gay men are named Mark, Rick or Steve), North to Alaska (darn you Johnny Horton), The Christmas Story (of course).

Television:

Crime-related dramas. I'm a CSI / Law and Order Junkie. And, yes, that means that the spin-off series are like manna from heaven. (Except CSI: Miami. I have no freaking clue what that's all about.) The Simpsons, The Family Guy, The Closer, Six Feet Under, Dead Like Me, Buffy, Angel, Charmed (by far the guiltiest and darkest of my secrets), Kids in the Hall, Futurama, Too Close for Comfort, Weeds, Lost, Supernatural, The Office, My Name is Earl, The Sopranos.

Books:

One of the most defining books in my life is The Fifth Sacred Thing. Otherwise, I'm all over the place. I like books which tie science and spirituality together: Flowers from Wiricuta, The Cosmic Searpent, 2012 The Return of Quezalcotl. I enjoy a good current events page-turner. Given the utter contemp and corruption of the current administration, these books are likely to keep me entertained well into Hillary's first term in office. I read the paper Monday through Saturday. I read some blogs: atrios.blogspot.com, sadlyno.com, thepoorman.net. I read some rags: Harpers, The New Yorker, Mother Jones. I like Stephen King, Chuck Palaniuk, Tom Robbins, Sean O'Faolin, Preston/Child. Love me some Walt Whitman on the poet front and Brian Friel on the playwright front.

Heroes:

Everyone I've ever met. You are now and always will be a part of this whole.

Whack-a-Mole

Growing up, we didn't have Chuck-e-Cheeses; no, those establishments were reserved for the cool rich kids who lived in the far off distant metropolis of Pittsburgh.  Out in the sticks, we had 'Ma...
