About Me

Hi! Here is a little blurbette, more to follow when I can be bothered.....Born and bred in the Midlands, I played in a few bands, sang in a few choirs, taught Guitar and Bass and even managed (someone else's) Music shop for a few years. I'm now a student again, residing in sunny Newcastle upon Tyne, studying Folk and Traditional Music at Newcastle Uni/the Sage Gateshead, which beats the hell outta nine to five, believe me!. I play a whole bunch of fretted instruments: Acoustic and Electric Guitar, Electric Bass, Mandolin, Bouzouki, Ukulele, Chonguri (a fretless lute from the Caucasus republic of Georgia.... don't ask!) Cittern(when I can get my hands on one), Tenor Banjo (ditto), and even the odd cack-handed attempt at five string banjo. Can't play a sitar to save my life though.... I also sing (or have sung) with a few acappella groups, (most notably Village Harmony and the mighty Stream of Sound). That should do you all for now, chances are if you're reading this you know me anyway.......

My Interests

And Bow ties. And a penchant for all things Marks and Sparks...****SKIRL is a trio of myself, Paul and Cathy (mostly for corporate work, but a few public shows every now and again) - myspace and tracks coming very soon.SUNNISIDE UP: Ceilidh band consisting of: **Julian Taylor - Fiddle** Theo Gibb - Melodeon**Me - Guitar**Pam Gibb - Caller** No myspace as yet...MOTHER"S RUIN are **Beth Coyle - Vox/Bass/Concertina**Dan Walsh - Banjo/Vox**Tom Cronin - Mandolin/Guitar/Vox**Me - Guitar/Dobro/Vox**And last but not least - THE BYKER MANDOLIN AND BANJO BAND (Dan Walsh, Nic Zuppardi, Lucy Coggle, Jenny Paige, Fynn Titford-Mock, Tom Cronin and myself, led by Herr Ãœber Gruppen Fuhrer Vic Gammon!)
Influences: Ooooh, this could take a while! I have an excessively wide musical taste, from Metal to Morris tunes, Madrigals to Miles Davis, Punk to Funk, Blues to Bluegrass, Mali to Bali, Baroque and Romantic composers...... I don't get on too well with the commercial end of hip hop (although some of the underground stuff can be interesting) or modern minimalist composers (Schoenberg. Eh?),and Andrew Lloyd Webber really leaves me very cold indeed (what a pompous t**t!), but other than that i'll listen to it and thus it probably influenced me along the line somewhere.....
