Profile courtesy of MySpace LayoutsMichael Byrne joined WLR Fm in 2001 after attending a radio broadcasting traineeship run by the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland and the Independent Broadcasters of Ireland where he received a National Skills Certificate in Radio Broadcasting.Michael started off as a sound technician and in early 2003 was appointed as ‘Head of Music' and in June 2004 was promoted to the position of ‘Assistant Manager of Programmes'.Since taking his position, Michael and the team at WLRFM have redeveloped the music of the station. "We carry out research annually, which gives us a more in depth look at what you our listeners want to hear on a daily basis, classic tracks, hits from the 70's, 80's, 90's and 00's".In the past two years WLRfm has been putting more of a focus on Irish music, especially local artists such as Riche Hayes,Liam Merriman, Bealtaine and Neil White, after all, we are Waterford's local radio station."As a born and bred Waterfordian, I have really enjoyed the past 5 years working at WLRfm and I hope I will be here for many years to come".
