International Maniac Institute

About Me

I.M.I. (International Maniac Institute) is three-piece punk band hailing from Ottawa, Canada. The band was formed in late 2002 when Ian (vox/axe) and Dicky (beats) began jamming in the moldy basement of the Indonesian Embassy – complete with gongs and gamelans.Father Ian is an alumnus of Vancouver punk bands Nunstalker and The Livids, and has shared the stage with area greats D.O.A., Dayglo Abortions, and The Real Mckenzies. Dicky—a.k.a. the Feva from Indonesia—does all band graphics and will marry just about anybody to secure permanent residence in Canada. After two years of making modest waves on the Ottawa punk scene, including shows with the Riptides and Subhumans (B.C.), IMI went on hiatus in 2004 so that Ian could help the poor in Tajikistan. For real.Upon his return in 2006, IMI lost their original bassist. Against all odds, recording and production of the band’s first full-length record, “Inert,” went forward. Upon completion, the band recruited Mike Four-Stroke of Four-Stroke fame to fill the critical third slot, and thus reopened the Institute for business.I.M.I. sounds like good, fast, original punk rock. I.M.I.’s members grew up on the Dead Kennedys, Misfits, Ramones, Propaghandi, Bad Brains, etc. and draw ample inspiration from the So-Cal punk scene of the early 1990s.
