Howdy...
My name is Leon Hill..I am a drummer from the West Tennessee Jackson area with over 30 years of crawling and walking performing experience in the music business, below is a brief bio of my drumming endeavors thru out my life long passion and love of music and do have a lot of everlasting memories of being in the business thru the years.........
I started being trained in the drum/percussion field while in elementary/jr high school band then on to high school band.My senior year of high school our drum section was rated number one in the state of Tennessee marching band competition under the direction of our band director Joe Sills. We were one of the first drum sections in the state to apply drum corps style drumming to our playing techniques and skills.I then went to college for a while and studied applied music theory to inhance my drumming skills, while in college I played snare drum in the concert band and trap set in the jazz band, did some drumming in my college music directors off campus jazz trio doing pizza pubs, company parties, weddings etc.Left college toured the western southern and northern US with country, funk disco, rock bands and worked honky tonks/club venues, officers clubs on military bases, casinos, supper clubs, discos, arena shows and studio sessions. The first studio session and record I performed on was with the"Father of Rock n Roll" artist legend Carl Perkins which he played guitar on the session.Later down the road I did some recording sessions in Memphis at several recording studios.... Sam Phillips/Phillips recording studio,Willie Mitchell's Hi studio(Paper Castle rock band album),Al Greens studio,Shoe Productions studio( Rick Dees Disco Duck was recorded there the day before I was in a session), did some demo sessions with Nashville artist Diana Dewitt(great female singer)at Larry Rogers studio, also did the drumming on Branson,Mo/Nashville artist Mike Walkers first indie CD(by the way Mike has one the greatest male singing voices you could ever imagine)laid down some drum tracks on The New Outlaws cd(Very unique band with gifted singer/song writer Larry Casabella singing lead vocals along with his wife Mendy singing/ keyboards)and many more sessions thru my drumming life at various studios in the Mid-South area.In between my music jobs to stay afloat I've worked many full time and side jobs as a utility pole climber lineman building cable tv systems, was a cable tv installer and cable tv tech, installed sat tv dishes, have been a car salesman and worked for a drumstick manufacture making drumsticks.More recent in the winter of Jan 2007 I landed a job drumming onboard Carnival Cruise Lines "Carnival Liberty" cruise ship as a lounge band drummer performing for the captains welcome aboard formal parties, the late night fun at sea deck parties and the nightly dance lounge in the Victorian lounge on the aft of the ship, disembarking from Port Everglades Ft.Lauderdale,Florida starting out with the Tim Mcgraw country getaway cruise for the first weekend then going to the Caribbean Islands of Freeport,Nassau Bahamas,
West Indies islands San Juan,Antigua,Tortola, USVI St Thomas,BVI of Grand Cayman,Yucatan region of Costa Maya Mexico...Limon Costa Rica and Colon Panama in Central America... Wow what a ride and adventure that was for me this late in life!!!.I still love performing as a drummer and take great pride with any music jobs im offered also more than ever practice daily on drum grooves, rudiments learning new rhythm patterns and enjoy every drumming performance where ever it may be.I guess one can say that I've paid and still continue to pay my dues in the rollercoaster music biz as a musician.... The beat goes on!!!!
