Born in Madrid, he started his career early at the age of 16 and in his formative years, he grew up influenced by the massive 80..s music scene at that time.
Interested in technology, blending sounds, textures, rhythms and ambient electronica, he began making music and performing in different places in Madrid with his first computer playing with just 4 mono tracks of audio.
Passionate about music, Jonathan always wondered how to get that sound that makes the difference. He learned to listen to many styles of music with a producers ear, and started experimenting with machines and software, taught himself to play the keyboard and program synthesizers and finally started to study sound engineering in Madrid.
After graduating, he built his own studio where he started to produce and write tracks with other people and record companies like Edel Music and Aire Music. One of his first hits was “Tiritipaira”, produced under the name of Lyric Freak, released by Aire Music and published by Warner Chappel music. Also, he honed his skills engineering in different recording studios in Madrid.
However, by this time his style was becoming increasingly influenced by house music and the Ibiza scene at the beginning of the 90’s. Indeed, he spent many summers djing and capturing the vibe of the entire music scene in the tiny island.
At this crucial moment in his development, he started to experiment with many musical genres, such as disco, techno, funk, weird electronica and drum&bass, mixing them together. Overall, Jonathan was particularly passionate about creating music with warmth, as well as developing a sound which mixed his modern experimentations with his Balearic and ethnic roots.
This passion led him to take his career further by moving to London where he learned more about sound engineering and Protools at Alchemea College of Sound Engineering, becoming a Certified Protools Operator. Additionally, Jonathan undertook a complete course of 310M Protools Expert classes and is teaching Protools as a Certified Protools Instructor.
In the first few months of living in London, he had already also started co-producing tracks with other people and working as a sound engineer in different studios around the city, working with local music identities like Sandy Rivera, Ron Tom, Don-e, Robin Millar, Ned Bigham, Brian Allen, between many others in the electronica scene.
One of his first releases in the UK was “Sentimientos” under the name of SUROH for the Blackwiz Label (Defected Records). This track mixed his characteristic influences of Balearic and ethnic roots with flamenco and deep house. He is currently working on more singles for a future album.
Since beginning the London chapter of his career, he has seen success on both sides of the Atlantic, having had a handful of his tracks hitting the top ten in the Club Breakers and Cool Cuts charts in the UK in 2006 and 2007, as well as reaching the top 15 of the US dance charts and recently the Official UK Charts with BootyLuv ( Ministry Of Sound ). He has made tracks for labels including Defected, MOS, Universal, Peppermit Jam, Azuli, Wallop, and Vocal Records. (for further information please see discography).
He has also just released a storming house hit ¨Move It¨ under the alias Pleasure Seekers, which features vocal sensation Joy Malcolm, famous for her work with Incognito and Moby amongst others. Also on the shelves is “Bring it back” under the name Soul Survivors which showcases the amazing talents of soul diva Angie Brown.
Nowdays, Jonathan Espinosa lives between London and Madrid working prolificaly as a producer and sound engineer in the recently set-up AAA Studios in West London that he co-manages with partner Brian Allen ( visit AAA Studios at myspace ). He also holds “Advance Music Production Techniques¨ workshops at Alchemea College about and DJs ocasionaly in a few venues around London.
The momentum that has carried him from Spain to the UK and underpins the sheer volume of his work shows no signs of slowing down and his ear for the sound that makes a difference is keener than ever.
