The point of power is in the present moment.

About Me

Horoscope for Week of Monday, June 2
Aries - There's never been a better time than the present to cancel your newspaper subscription, turn off your television, and declare a personal moratorium on negativity. As the mass media turns up the volume of "the Fear", the only sane response is to become increasingly vigilant at tuning them out. What you think about, you create. So if you're filling your mind with violent TV and newspaper headlines that scream out poverty, powerlessness, and destruction - well, guess what? That's what your mind is naturally going to try to create for you: a world of scarcity, fear, and hopelessness. Tuesday's New Moon in your 3rd House of thoughts and communications encourages you to set your intent to reach only and always for the best thoughts you're capable of. Work with this energy, because this is such a powerful career year for you but you'll only be able to take advantage of your good aspects if your thoughts are aligned with abundance.
Taurus - This week marks an important moment in the story of your finances in 2008. Tuesday's New Moon in your 2nd House of income, values and personal resources reminds you to remember that when it comes to money, as you think so shall it become. There are lots of reasons to be afraid right now, if you believe the stories the corporate-owned mass media are selling you. But in times of chaos the victory goes to those who are flexible, self-assured and well-prepared. Surely you've negotiated tricky financial straits in the past; Mercury retrograde in your 2nd House is helping you to go back and review the learnings you've accumulated from past experience. Once you remember how you've used your mind to overcome obstacles in the past, you can easily translate this wisdom into your present circumstances. Starting from a realistic assessment of where you are now and where you want to go, use Tuesday's New Moon energy to put your intent out into the Universe in the form of a clear and realizable picture of the financially secure and abundant new you.
Gemini - Things might feel even weirder than they've felt recently until about mid-afternoon (Eastern time, USA) on Tuesday, when the Gemini New Moon becomes exact. This New Moon falls directly across the zodiac from a supermassive black hole in Sagittarius known as the Great Attractor. While we know very little for certain about this mysterious vortex, we do know it is sucking everything around it towards itself at incredible speeds and that its gravity is powerful enough to bend the fabric of space-time. Since the Great Attractor inhabits your 7th House of relationships and since this point will be triggered by Tuesday's New Moon, you might expect to experience a particularly psychic interaction with another person who seems remarkably able to peer into the future this week. Oftentimes Great Attractor moments tend to be extremely weird yet still contain valuable information; sift out the strangeness to get to what can help you. On a personal level, this New Moon is a highly charged power moment for you. Use the energy of this lunation to set your intent for the personal growth you want to see in the next year. Write it down, chant it, sing it, or paint it - this New Moon will respond well to your use of a personally significant ritual to imbue your intentions with power as you send them out into the heart of space.
Cancer - Floatin' like a ghos', like a ghos', like a ghos'
Floatin' like a ghos', like a ghos', like a ghos'

That's a rap song I made up this week to describe a style of bike-riding that came to me on a series of cross-town rides in the late-May New Orleans heat. It's hard to describe this style in words, because it's more of a feeling than a set way of interacting with traffic and the road. Like the word "ghost" stripped of its final "t" sound, it's characterized by a softness which, if taken to its logical endpoint, must ultimately lead to invisibility. When I'm in this state, weaving in and out of traffic, I feel the vibrations of the cars and the trucks and the stereos and the drivers and the French Quarter pedestrians oblivious to me bearing down on them as they slouch off the curb into the street, and I imagine myself as a shape-shifter, malleable, able to bend around people and stretch myself thin to fit between the horse-drawn carriage and the curb to my right and then the jutting side mirror and the parked car to my left. It's a wonderful state to enter into, feeling supremely confident and at the same time charged with the awareness required to avoid a prideful and painful blunder. Why am I telling you this? On a conscious level I'm not really sure, but on an unconscious level I know this metaphor is connected to Tuesday's New Moon in your 12th House of the deep unconscious mind. Just like my ghos' rap magically enables me to bypass my worried rational mind and operate from a deeper part of me that possesses 360-degree vision, you might find your own personal mantra to help you remember that your best results will always come when you trust and honor your powerful intuition.
Leo - "A true friend always stabs you in the front," said Oscar Wilde. And while none of us likes to be filleted, we can probably all agree that a true friend is one who supports us no matter what circumstances we find ourselves in, yet loves us enough to be honest with us when we need to change course. Tuesday's New Moon in your 11th House of friends, social and professional networks, and dreams for the future opens the door to a new friendship that could be worth its weight in gold to you. Because New Moons always sweep out the old and usher in the new, you may have to let go of a friendship or social scene that isn't working for you anymore. Your friends say so much about your inner landscape, and this New Moon encourages you to let go of associations that drag you down or drain your energy and open yourself to new relationships with people who share your values and can help you realize your most progressive and abundant dreams. Here's a good litmus test for your friends (and dreams): do you feel energized when you're around this person?
Virgo - One of the interesting things about the Saturnian belt-tightening process you're going through in 2008-2009 is that it is actually increasing your options in the world. It may seem like a paradox, but when we agree to limit our personal freedom by assuming more responsibility for our thoughts, actions and emotions, we open up areas of experience that were formerly closed off to us. Let me give you an example: people with no sense of integrity around eating can eat all of the chocolate, candy, and cake they want to eat. But eventually the resulting obesity will block them from the pleasures available to someone with a fit, healthy body: the endorphin rush of exercise, the self-esteem that comes with living in a fit and flexible body, the fun of playing sports and the thrill of healthy intimacy. Saturn is demanding that you cut self-destructive and self-indulgent personal habits from your life, and one of the new freedoms that is opening up as a result of this is an increase in time and energy resources you can put toward the accomplishment of your life's work. Use Tuesday's New Moon in your 10th House to create a vivid word picture of your ideal day at work and then live into that story.
Libra - Your chart strongly suggests that someone new who enters your life in the coming weeks will be instrumental in helping you realize a cherished dream or life objective. (This person could be someone you already know who takes on a bigger, more supportive role in your life, by the way.) We all need partners to help us along our path here on Earth, and you even more than most thrive in partnership. So who is this person and how will you recognize him or her? Tuesday's Gemini New Moon in your 9th House of the higher mind encourages you to tune in to your intuition, pay attention to your dreams and use your power of intention to open yourself to synchronicity. Use the imaginative power of your whole mind to get a feel for what kind of person might be most helpful to you in advancing your life's work. Would this be a romantic partner, a business partner, an agent, a therapist, or a friend who really understands you and your life trajectory and is there when you need him or her most?
Scorpio - In a beautiful memoir in the current Shambhala Sun entitled "There is Much We Do Not Know about the Feelings of Butterflies," Liza Dallby relates that the word 'psyche' in ancient Greek originally stood for both 'soul' and 'butterfly'. In meditating on Tuesday's New Moon in your 8th House, I find this information particularly interesting. Scorpio reverberates strongly to the themes of the 8th House: sharing power, sex or money; domination and submission (not just in the sexual sense); and the experience of coming face to face with one's limits and surrendering into union with a power greater than oneself. In order to become a butterfly, science tells us, the caterpillar must dissolve completely in its cocoon, as its imaginal cells mutate into a new and more beautiful form. In the same way, life on Earth forces us to experience our limited ability to control people, places and things and - when we finally surrender to this process - mutates us into something much finer and ultimately more powerful than the untempered caterpillar self could even imagine. This is perhaps the ultimate paradox for Scorpio, that in the end surrender equals victory.
Sagittarius - A new, inspiring relationship is set to enter your life now, but first you may have to let go of an old one that has run its course. Tuesday's New Moon falls in your 7th House of one-on-one relationships, the same area of your chart highlighted by the current Mercury retrograde. This interweaving of energies seems to indicate that you'll be going back in time or in your mind to reevaluate or re-experience an important relationship from the past; and that you will be able to use the learnings you gain from this exercise to update your personal relationship paradigm and bring it more into alignment with your current evolutionary needs and desires. We all go through periods in which we grow away from people (and our internal ways of seeing other people). You are more comfortable with this inevitable change and flux than many other signs, so let go if it's time to let go and make room for the new person who is set to enter your sphere.
Capricorn - The two weeks following Tuesday's New Moon in your 6th House are one of the best times this year to commit to a new exercise, fitness or health plan. New Moons represent the end of an old cycle and the start of a new one, and intentions set at the New Moon reverberate strongly throughout the following year. As Mercury is retrograde in this same area of your chart now, you may find that going back to an exercise or diet that worked for you in the past will work wonders for you again. Mercury retrogrades tend to get a bad rap, but this is also an excellent energy for doing research and gathering information on the programs, systems, and products that will best help you to meet your fitness goals or achieve optimal health. Don't pass up this stellar opportunity, Capricorn. To make the most of your lucky Jupiter year, you need to feel good, because what you radiate out to others, they will radiate back to you.
Aquarius - Your chart continues to tell me that the most spiritually advanced thing you can do at this juncture is to enjoy yourself on a day-by-day, moment-to-moment basis. The current Mercury retrograde in your 5th House and Tuesday's New Moon in this same part of your chart indicate that consciously focusing on the part of you that loves to play, create, wonder and explore will bring you more benefits than any other investment of your time and energy. Giving yourself the freedom to create right now - whether it's making art, beautifying your home, playing with your kids, or messing around in the garden - opens up the powerful part of your mind that is usually locked out by the demands of the egoic "rational" mind. ("Rational" literally means "self-dividing".) And this powerful, deep part of you is connected to the wisdom of the entire Universe. So whatever your problem or question this week, ask it and then release the need to think about it and get busy indulging your inner child. Somewhere between recess and naptime, the answer will be revealed.
Pisces - You have more power and more options in a home, security, family, or emotional matter than you might have been feeling lately. This should gradually become apparent after the New Moon in your 4th House on Tuesday. But don't wait until after the New Moon has passed to take advantage of this energy. New Moons represent the end of one cycle of experience and the beginning of a new one, and you can use the energy of the New Moon to put your intent out to the Universe. What do you want your home life to look like in the coming year? Write it down and let it happen. What emotional burdens or blockages are you ready to be clear of? Imagine how it would feel to be free of them and then allow Life to show you how you can realize that intention. If you're one of the many Pisces who work from home, this New Moon is powerfully supportive of you moving into a new space (or redoing your current space) that will enable your productivity to flourish.

The paradox of will and surrender, manifestation and acceptance
What do new babies do with their spare time? Where are they? Are they tripping so hard we can't even imagine it? Are they in another dimension? Are they actually experiencing life on a cellular level? Some psychic freak must have channeled a book about this, right?
