The Mighty Mellotron
About Me:
I am heavily influenced by Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, amoungst others. I grew up listening to Genesis and Phil Collins(it was the 80s and early 90s), so they are a big part of my influence aswell. Before I started playing guitar I had already been playing music on piano and saxophone. The music that got me into the guitar was the bands that came out 94-96 or so, such as Pearl Jam, Green Day(Dookie), Offspring, Soundgarden, Stone Temple Piolets, Alice in Chaines, and who can forget Nirvana. It wasn't until I heard Stone Temple Piolets version of "Dancing Days" that Led Zeppelin really opened up to me. From there I started hearing more and more songs I somehow knew and others I didn't know but I liked immediately, one key song is "Hey Hey What Can I Do" which I did a drawing to while listening to it on the radio when I was very young.
After graduating High School, I spent a short time getting into Progressive Music, just because it was very different from Rock. My friend Brian, who played drums at the time was also getting heavily into Neil Pert, and spent day and night playing music and learning all kinds of techniques influenced by Marco Minnemann, Terry Bozio, Vinnie Colaiuta, Gene Krupa, etc. Those were fun times, resulting in crazy music, long jams, and a 20min song. But at the same time none of that music was ever heard by the World.
Since then I've been in several bands, played a lot of shows, met a lot of people, and went on tour for a little while. But after all of that I am still at square one. I am really looking to get in a band or start a band where I can work with some talented people that actually want to play music for a living and can still have a good time doing so.
To wrap it all up, I'd say I am an old soul with a modern edge. I like a lot of older music, and older things, but I obviously live in the modern world surrounded by modern ideas. I am always interested in meeting new musicians, so if anyone ever just wants to jam or meet at a blues bar with an open mic and play some stuff there, I am interested in doing so.
