Since my early childhood I developed a fascination with the human figure through watching my mother painting portraits for a living. This interest in people has been amplified through my multicultural upbringing and living in crowded cities such as London and Munich.Being a woman the subject of body image and beauty ideals has also become central to my work as our culture is bombarded with ideas of female perfection. My style combines the opposing influences which the inner city offers. I explore the contrast of the soft human body and the hard urban surrounding through shape and texture. The mediums of oil and gloss on canvas have become my favorite, as they can produce a wide variety of textures and are very rich and vibrant in their color.Although I am a fully trained artist the techniques I use stem more from personal experimentation than taught procedures, and accidental reactions between substances such as tuline and gloss paint result in textures that I find very tactile and exciting.London's urban nature, the textures on peeling walls and billboards, the drips and colors in graphitti art, and the wide variety of people serve as my inspiration rather than other artists.Integrating a sense of ambiguity into my work is of great importance to me, as it means that each viewer can interpret the work for themselves, rather than being told what to think.
