About Me
I works primarily with religion and art in Japan, Japanese religion more generally, and Mahayana Buddhist thought and practice. My teaching reflects these research interests, and I deal as well with the broader comparative study of religion in a phenomenological context. I joined the Syracuse faculty in 1970 and continues in the department as an associate professor. Currently, I also serves as the Chairperson of the Department of Religion and as President of Theta Alpha Kappa, the National Honor Society for Religious Studies and Theology.
