In a world where singing is characterized by over-singing or barely there vocals Delitha Rideout, is set to be the much needed change in today’s music industry. A singer, dancer and songwriter Delitha Rideout will be displaying all of her talents with the release of her still untitled debut album Fall 2008 to be released independently.Delitha Rideout, a Bay Area native has been aware of her musical abilities since the tender age of six when she penned her first song. She remembers opting to stay inside to write songs and perform them for her grandmother while her friends played outside. “I don’t know what I was thinking, but it’s the only thing I wanted to do†she recalls with a gleaming smile on her face. Delitha also credits staying indoors with her grandmother as the reason her musical influences range from Billie Holliday and Sarah Vaughn to Toni Braxton and Beyonce Knowles.Continuing her musical journey, Delitha Rideout joined the choir as a featured member at the age of thirteen, where she greatly attributes the development of her vocal style.Although Delitha Rideout was active in high school with choreographing her cheerleading and dance she was known as the “quiet one†which she has always found amusing. “If they only knew, I was thinking of songs and melodies…what it would be like to be the red carpet. I didn’t wanna be bothered with high school mess, I was focused!†As a testament to her focus she performed at and won many talent competitions throughout the Bay Area, and in 2003 was the opening act for fellow singer, Monica Arnold.Current day, Delitha Rideout is preparing her debut album and could not be more ecstatic. “I’ve never had a baby, but my album for me is like being pregnant. I imagine the moment you find out you’re pregnant all of your energy goes into nurturing and preparing your child for the world. I view this project in that same way, I am conceptualizing, writing and singing throughout its entirety.â€Delitha Rideout is on a mission to make great, timeless music. Infusing gospel, jazz, soul and hip-hop she has branded a unique style of music all her own. In songs like “Juicy (So Hot)â€, she brazenly celebrates the power a woman has over a man with her femininity. “Its fun being a woman, at this stage of I’m learning my powers…how to use and celebrate my femininity without being over the top or cheap about it.†Not focusing solely on the vigor of feminine prowess Delitha Rideout writes about all aspect of her life from mentally abusive relationships, learning self-love, family and friendship. “Writing songs is my therapy, I don’t have a journal this is it for me. I can express myself, and make beautiful songs in the process†Skillfully delivering complex emotion with each note her pain; anger and frustration; love; joys are all experienced through her material.Not just another pretty face Delitha Rideout is sure to make you bob your head with every track on her cd.
