About Me

Visit my website !
My name is Molly, and Luminaire Images is what I call my adventures in photography. I have a personal profile , but don't bother adding it unless you know me personally. I have been working as both an assistant and primary photographer for over 3 years since graduating from Chapman University with a BFA in cinematography. I have experience in nearly every subject and I primarily work in the wedding photography industry, however I particularly enjoy shooting travel, culture, nature/wildlife, and photojournalistic-related images.
F.A.Q.
What kind of camera do you shoot with?
Currently I use...
-A Nikon D300 and a Nikon D200
-With a 50mm f/1.4, 105mm f/2.8 micro, 17-55mm f/2.8, and a 80-200mm f/2.8
-Two SB-600 flash units with diffusers.
I'm an amateur. What kind of tips can you give me?
1. Take LOTS of pictures. Practice makes perfect.
2. Study other photographs and photographers' work that you really admire.
3. Be bold! Try to vary your subjects beyond landscapes and flowers.
4. Study up, take photography courses if you're really that unfamiliar with the medium.
5. Learn and invest in Photoshop. It's as useful a tool as the camera itself.
6. Become a photography assistant. In the old days when someone wanted to go into a certain profession, they became an apprentice. This method still works best.
Where can I see more of your work?
I'm all over the place online...you can view my best work at my website , my Flickr profile , or here on MySpace, in my blog . (Please note that all blog entries are particularly image-heavy, and may take longer to load when viewing with a slower internet connection.) If you want to keep abreast of regular updates, then subscribe !
What kind of camera should I buy?
Being a photographer doesn't me a camera expert as there are dozens of models out there. I suggest you research that on your own , or ask an actual camera salesperson. Do keep in mind that there is NO SUCH THING as the absolute "best" camera, "best" lenses, and so on. There is only equipment that enables you to take the "best" photos you can. In other words, remember that it's not the camera that makes a great photograph, it's the photographer. A camera that caters to your specific needs and your specific style/subjects (sports? landscapes? your kids?) is what you should be looking for. Simply because other people prefer or rave about a certain piece of equipment does not mean it will fulfill your needs:
I'm shooting my first wedding! What should I do?!?!
I've written a blog entry for the wedding photography novice in search of general advice.
How did you make your default photo?
Isn't it obvious? I have certain...gifts.
...just kidding. Photoshop, plain and simple.
How do you get your images so bright/crisp/colorful?
I've written a blog addressing this question.
You deleted my comment! Do you hate me?
While modest self-promotion is mostly OK (in moderation), I do not tolerate obnoxious advertising and will delete all comments of that kind. I also report blatant spam and spammers directly to MySpace.
Will you shoot my wedding/band/headshots/family portraits/etc?
Yes. Contact me either through a MySpace message or via my website and let's discuss!
Do you have a MySpace banner I can display on my page?
Originally I believed it hypocritical to encourage others to feature me when I myself do not display other artists' banners, but then I noticed some people were simply taking my web link image and using that anyway, so yes...I finally made one:

Baby birdy!

Cute lil' fella, isn't it? We're feeding it a mash of soggy dog food, boiled egg whites, and milk, as per instructions we found on the internet; basically it just needs a lot of protein....
