The soul of a human being is a very powerful thing. It is a spiritual body that is capable of changing the very reality in which it is shrouded. This essence, could be housed by only one thing—flesh, that must be tempered in the flames of adversity. To change reality, each person must learn to think creatively, to adapt, and to overcome the obstacles that have been beset upon us. This burning drive to create and adapt is what our spirits do. That is why we feel pain, so that we may be spurred to change something around us. To create something that is bigger than we are. This pain that we are forced to feel reminds us that we are working through something that burdens us. Almost as if it were a trial, to test a spirit’s resolve. Every time a person thinks for themselves, every time an idea is created, every time a new life is born, an effort must be exerted by the spiritual body within. The burning drive within us allows us to leave our mark upon the world—but at a cost. We feel longing. We feel pain. We die. With what precious little time we have, we are given a chance to change something within our vision of reality. In the life of every human spirit, comes a time when it will simply burn out. The work that the flesh has done, has worn the body to its end. It simply can no longer sustain the spiritual body within. But before the wearied spirit’s flame can sputter out, a trail of ash will mark the way that life was lived. Our creative ideas, our works of art and even our dreams are portions of the ashen trail. This ash, these marks we leave upon the world— These are ashes of soma.Copyright ©2004 Joel Bishop
I'd like to meet some new people who can educate, inspire or entertain me... If there are any of you out there, please feel free to contact me.
I like a variety of different music and I have a host of influeces but first and foremost is my favourite band, Tool. They are such an inspiration to my life. I am also into Raqe, NIN, Zeppelin, Sabath, Shinedown, Sevendust, Disturbed, Reef, Audioslave, Thornley, Soundgarden, Finger Eleven, a Perfect Circle, Chevelle, Pink Floyd, I Mother Earth, Tantric, Alice in Chains, Deftones, Social Code, Lucerin Blue, Third Eye Open, Mudvayne, Stone Temple Pilots, Silvertide, Primus, Avenged Sevenfold, and many many more.
My Favourite movie of all time is Pulp Fiction. That is a great film. As far as epic sagas go though, I am a huge starwars fan. Although, I may have to give that crown over to Lord of the Rings. It is hard to say. Very different from each other, but both very good. The comic book movies of recent years have also been amazing. Both X-men and X-men 2 were awesome. So were the Spiderman flics. I am also a huge fan of the Blade Series. Not just because the black guy didn't die first either. It was an entertaining story! There are so many to list though. A time to Kill. The Usual Suspects. Boondock Saints. Braveheart. The Matrix Trilogy. The Terminator Trilogy. Bad Santa. Me, Myself and Irene. Anchorman. Reservoir Dogs. The Edge. The Count of Monte Cristo. The list goes on and on... As far as independent films go... I just watched a film called Bubba Ho-tep recently. It sounded bizare, and it was... a must see!
The Simpson's is the only thing worth watching anymore. Well I like That 70's show too. Although I have come to enjoy Family Guy lately. Ooooohhh... and how could i forget Lost. I have also recently started to catch an episode or two of Prison Break. That show is weird--I like it. Well ok, I guess I should never have said there were no good shows worth watching... they are just few and far between.
Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth Series is awesome. I will however read just about anything that has words. I have read most of the Star Wars Novels. The Da Vinci Code was a great read. I like anything with a good plot and strong character development. I have also started reading Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series. That is a really good series. I loved the Great Gatsby. (it was a book we had to read in high school, but i actually liked it) The Chronicles of Narnia, Lord of the Rings, Brave New World.
I believe there is a hero in all of us, giving us strength and courage to take on the struggles of everyday life. The real heroes though, are those who attempt to reach out beyond their own struggles and make a difference in the lives of those around them. Are you someone's hero? Maybe not right now. Maybe not even ever, but you never know. Everyday, there is someone out there who could use a helping hand. Do you have the strength it takes to lend that hand? It just might happen that this person is a lot closer to you than you think. It could simply be just a neighbour, or a friend, or even a close loved one. The point is, we all have the power to make peoples lives better. We have it within us all to be a hero. It's a shame we don't all utilize this. The world could be such a better place.
