I really enjoy painting, drawing, sculpting, jewelry making, and all sorts of artsy stuff. The bigger mess I make, the happier I am. My fiance and I just moved into a 2 bedroom apartment, and I've claimed the second bedroom as my studio. I now have my own messy space!!!
I also enjoy writing. When inspiration strikes me, I'm up and working on my projects, be it 2am or pm. I think I enjoy these activities because of the 'white space' effect (if you're clueless, I pity you. Google it!). My anxieties, problems, and issues fade into the mist and leave my mind to play in the vast emptiness of creativity, no strings attached.
I used to play Magic: The Gathering quite frequently, but school kept me out of the card shops and now work has just made me all but forget about them (much to my wallet's delight). I still have a couple decks though, and when the fancy strikes me, I make an appearance or two at my favorite shops.
I totally dig Martial Arts. My Shihan is awesome and my classmates are great people. Apparantly I'm a fast learner! I just hope I won't break my collar bone or something like I did with the last martial arts I dabbled in.....
I'm just looking to broaden my circle of friends. Anyone that likes going to live music - rock concerts, symphonies, jazz, whatever. Anyone with a sense of adventure ("Where are we going?" "Does it matter?"). Anyone with a sense of humor. Anyone that can be fun to hang with. Friends are the best people in the world, and I'd like to make more of them.
I totally dig the rock concert scene. Ra, Disturbed, The Dreaming, Breaking Point, Stabbing Westward, Stone Sour, Shinedown, pretty much anything they play on Rock 108.
I always need some sort of background music, so I turn on some jazz, swing, techno, rock, oldies, whatever strikes my fancy at the time. Music is a big part of my life. It's the gateway to my soul. It dictates, changes, enhances, and reflects my mood with every downbeat, every lyric, and every chord.
To be able to PLAY the music that touches my heart is just a whole different experience, and that's what attaches me to my flute and piccolo (Monti and Toni). Yes, I'm still that big of a band geek, I kept their high school-given names.
"This is the magic of music.... it touches every key of memory and stirs all of the hidden springs of sorrow and of joy. I love it for what it makes me forget and what it makes me remember." ~Anonymous
"There's no earthly way of knowing which direction we are going. There's no knowing where we're rowing or which way the river's flowing. Is it raining? Is it snowing? Is a hurricane a-blowing? Not a speck of light is showing so the danger must be growing. Are the fires of hell a-glowing? Is the grizzly reaper mowing? Yes! The danger must be growing for the rowers keep ..ing! And they're certainly not showing any signs that they are slowing!!!"
I don't get out to watch movies much. Generally Comedy and Action are what I go for, with a splash of Chick-Flick here and there. Space Balls, Office Space, Kill Bill I & II, Army of Darkness, Stranger than Fiction, Benny & Joon, The Princess Bride, Sin City, The NeverEnding Story I & II, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, The Goonies, Monty Python and the Search for the Holy Grail, The Nightmare Before Christmas, A Christmas Story, The Notebook, the list goes on...
TV? Oh yeah, that big black thing..... If I remember right, I watched primarily Cartoon Network (Adult Swim), Food Network (Good Eats), and TLC (What Not To Wear, Trading Spaces). Since Graeme and I don't have cable, we're regulars at Blockbuster.
My list, titled "Books I Need To Read Before I Die" is really, really long. There aren't enough bowel movements, late nights, or empty Sundays left for me to complete the list, but I'm making an effort. I keep abreast of the latest editions of Uncle John's Bathroom Readers, and I've grabbed a few books from Graeme's vast fantasy collection. Right now I'm diggin' Robin Hobb's Assassin series.
Lemme get back to you on that. In the meantime, here are some sites I frequently visit:
