"Adam says, we talk like lions and we sacrifice like lambs, we speak of all ambitious things and then we slaughter them. I must believe I have the lion's heart."
Lion of Ido
Ido Zmishlany was born in Herzylia, Israel. At a young age he moved with his family to Long Island, NY, where he grew up in a diverse suburban neighborhood. He was often very restless; the kid that your parents said was too wild for you to have a play-date with. With his free time he taught himself how to play guitar on his dad's 1969 Guild Starfire IV. By age 12, Ido played piano, drums, guitar, bass, and sang. Ido plays all the instruments he learned at age 12 on his new album, which is out Sept. 29th 2007 and a few more he picked up along the way. Now a young man in his early twenties, Ido has experienced more of the world and the music industry then most people his age. When you take into account the world tours, the TV offers, the hit songs, and sold out shows you begin to understand why Ido's perspective and therefore his music is so unique.
As a sophomore in high school he started a band called “Last Week†with some friends, playing at temples and bowling alleys. Soon enough, they graduated to a spot on the Van’s Warped Tour, and tour dates with Maroon 5, Fall Out Boy, The Click Five, and a performance on Sessions @ AOL. A song Ido wrote called “Beautiful Girl†became the 4th most downloaded song in the country as charted by Billboard Magazine when it was featured on AOL’s welcome screen. By the summer of 2005, “Unpredictable," another song written by Ido, was put into regular rotation at WHTZ NY - Z100, the largest radio station in the country. He and the band were regular guests on the Z100 morning show, playing at the radio station’s annual summer concert, Zootopia, at the Continental Airlines Arena.
As many bands do, they decided to part ways by Spring 06. The same week, Ido got a call from Tommy Lee, a fan of Ido’s music, to join the cast of CBS’s Rockstar Supernova. “Though flattered, I realized I needed to take the time to figure out my life and what kind of music I really wanted to make.†He turned down this once in a lifetime opportunity to find himself and his music. Ido began writing what would be called Lion of Ido. “I decided that I would create a new project that reflected my undiluted point of view, something new and honest.â€
With album in hand, Ido began touring the world with the YouTube Summer World Tour. Visiting Israel, England, The Netherlands, and Czech Republic, he performed and filmed concerts exclusively for his YouTube channel www.youtube.com/lionofido. There he posted music videos from his new album performed in interesting and recognizable places; “We Are In Love†in the red light district of Amsterdam, “If You Don’t Mind†in front of Jerusalem’s Wailing Wall, and “Lion’s Song†in front of Buckingham Palace.
In addition, Zmishlany has recruited a new band featuring Crista Russo on Bass and Steve Lombardo on drums, who will be touring this fall to support the new album. “For me it is important for people to realize that we are all going through the same things. Starting this new project has taken a lot of courage and perseverance. It has tested my will and commitment to my ambitious goals. However, I intend to accomplish everything I said I would and this is why I've decided to name the project Lion of Ido."
