A Director Prepares: Seven Essays on Art and Theatre by Anne Bogart
Jeanie Davis and Kathryn Lowry, writer/director and composer of the first original play I was in. It was a church play called My Destiny. I was 8 years old.
Don & Claudia Bendorf, friends of my family that saw something in me and would take me to see plays. Gordon Jackson, the director of the play, MUSEUM, by Tina Howe, one of the plays they Don & Claudia took me to see. It is the play when I decided I wanted to be a director. I was in 7th grade. Gordon later taught me about collaboration and group created theatre.
The Board of the Birdcage Theatre in Oroville, California, for believing in two 15 year olds enough to let them take over their theatre in the summer to put on a show. And for letting us do it again for 3 more summers.
Glen Dawson, my high school band teacher, for not only teaching me about leadership and responsibilty but to be a better person. I have never had a teacher that went so above and beyond as he did.
My father who taught me to be happy where my feet are. I didn't always listen but he was patient ... he knew it would eventually sink in. And for teaching me by example that being a man of strength comes from being kind and gentle. And that you never quit.
My mother for filling my chidhood with creativity and music. For getiing up almost every morning to make me breakfast (Even when she didn't feel like it). Mostly for her unconditional love and never ending support.
