About Me

Lawyer by day--local rock star groupie by night. I live a crazy life that no one could possibly believe surrounded by wonderful friends and family. Though I look prim and proper, I love irreverance and pushing the envelope in smart ways. I'm always a proponent of voicing the uncomfortable view, trying to understand the opposition, educating our youth with honesty and openness, talking about tough issues, and using what we can of the rules to change the system.I have ultimate respect for individuals who practice their art in the everyday, reach out to the community around them, realize the complexities of the problems, and remember to laugh. I spend my days trying to become more like them.

My Interests

Art (visual, literary, theatrical--particularly anything contemporary, minimalist, sparse, or graphic), the local art and music scene, wandering museums, politics, HIV/AIDS education, photography This is my Flicker page.

I'd like to meet:

Cool people who are entirely themselves, and who can help promote the same in others. Independent thinkers who want to debate what they care about and share what they've learned. Badass punk rockers with good hearts. Anyone who's interested in a diverse and supportive community.

Music:

Nothing's better than the Ann Arbor/Ypsi music scene (with a special place on my personal top-ten list for MC Trashpedal and the no-longer-united Hot Meat for Young Lovers). In other worlds, Jeff Buckley, Ryan Adams, smoky jazz, Radiohead, or almost anything rare, authentic, distinct, and hot.

Movies:

My favorites change week to week based on the latest selections from Liberty Street Video's 6 for 6 rentals. The permanent list includes The Hours, The House of Yes, Rear Window, Before Sunset, Ridicule, The Kid Stays in the Picture, How to Draw a Bunny, and Dangerous Beauty. Always love something beautiful (live action Peter Pan, City of God, Elephant) or stylized (Barbarella, In Like Flint, Danger Diabolik, Faster Pussycat Kill Kill).

Television:

I shamelessly love television: Queer as Folk, Oz, The Surreal Life, The Soup, Top Chef, Grey's Anatomy, and, especially, Project Runway.

Books:

Michael Cunningham's The Hours, Ian McEwan's Enduring Love, Francine Prose's The Lives of the Muses, Arundhati Roy's The God of Small Things, Charlie Baxter's The Feast of Love, Yevgeny Zamyatin's We, J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter

Heroes:

Great, strong, independent women--men who understand the complexities of being male in our current world--outspoken activists on the streets and in the system--fearless children
