In addition to the unforgettable smiling faces of children in Africa who are learning to read, write and compute, thanks to the success of past campaigns, the sad and tear stained faces of countless children living in poverty, ignorance and disease tell the story of urgent needs. In 2003, Smile Africa launched its Portable Library Project by converting shipping containers stocked with books, teaching aid and computers to African communities. To date, three libraries have been shipped to South Africa and Angola to support the learning of many children and families. This year, the beCAUSE campaign aims to raise awareness, collect books and resources to WIPE OUT illiteracy among the poorest populations of Africa. Donations collected at the benefit concert will leverage additional funds from other donors to retrofit and ship two potable libraries to Ghana, West Africa. The shows line-up of talent boasts some of Kelownas best rockers, and is a tribute to their attitude to be a part of the global solution to poverty in Africa, with some truly inspirational stories told by Chris Ellom himself.beCAUSE Campaign Declaration:
