The Guns of brixton story
Decembre 2003, 4 Caennais forment, sur les cendres de differentes formations rock’n’roll, un groupe dub. Loin de la dimension sociale des Clash, Guns of Brixton n’en garde pas moins un souci d’authenticité. Aussi divers soient-ils, les univers musicaux sont abordés simplement. Extension d’un dub classique, l’album sorti en fevrier 2005 confirme cette volonté d’associer paisibles ambiances à des sauts d’humeur radicales.
In 2003, four french guys take the well-known clash’s title: “Guns of Brixton” for their band’s name. And everything is there: the Dub, the Rock and Brixton, this London’s district where lives the jamaïcan community and who is known for his riots and the police’s violence. Guns Of Brixton’s music is a dark and heavy dub wich is more inspired by Refused, Mogwai or Neurosis than by Sly and Robbie. In the end of 2004, Cyrille (guitar), Sidoine (drums), Steven (keyboards) and Nicolas (bass) produced their first album “Near Dub Experience” which led them to the “Printemps de Bourges”, one of the most famous french festival. In 2007, here they are again, with an astonish album: “in.dub.out.” Sink to the devil’s house with the bass’s delay and the powerful guitar’s riffs... “it’s a mix between black and white community, between punks and rastas.” said Cyrille. Following Lab° and Zenzile, Guns of Brixton offer a new way in French dub
