I was born Mahesh Prasad Varma on January 12, 1917. I received a degree in Physics in 1942. I then traveled to the Himalayas to study the Advaita school of Vedanta religious thought with Guru Dev for 13 years!In the early 1950's I began working for Shankararacheraya of Jyotirpeeth. When Shankararacheraya passed away in 1953, I retired to an ashram in the Himalayas for 1½ years of silence. When I emerged to the public once more I was known as Maharishi Mahesh Yogi.I immediately began traveling around India spreading Transcendental Meditation (TM). In 1958 I decided to tour South-East Asia and then in December of that same year went to America to spread the word.After spending nearly a year in the USA I headed to England. The first meditation center in Britain was established in 1959 and by 1968 Maharishi had 250 centers in over 50 countries! I traveled the world for nearly 30 years bringing TM to thousands of people!Over a number of years of teaching TM I have a number of famous pupils. The most famous would have to be the members of the Beatles. But Mick Jagger, Marianne Faithfull, Yoko Ono, John Densmore, Ray Manzarek, Mike Love, Al Jardine, and Mia Farrow can also be added to the list. Though not as public about it: Stevie Wonder, Cher, Clint Eastwood, Burt Reynolds, and Jane Fonda might also have followed my teachings.I have published a number of books: Science of Being and Art of Living (1963), Ideal India - the Lighthouse of Peace on Earth, Inaugurating Maharishi Vedic University, Maharishi Mahesh Yogi on the Bhagavad-Gita (1968) plus many others.
I also began a political party - the Natural Law Party - which ran candidates in Canada, Britain and Australia. I have a television station, Veda Vision, which broadcasts from India. I also has managed to make money in real estate, schools, and clinics, there are two notable School, Maharishi School in Skelmersdale UK, and in Fairfield, Iowa USA.ADD ME:) I love new friends to spread the love
