The I.C.U was founded in 2004 by New Orleans recording artist’s, E.D Nix (Edward Ross) MacNiffy (Corey McCrary) and, Jonathan Gallagher. Influenced by east coast rappers like Nas and Jay-Z and equal parts of New Orleans swagger such as Juvenile and Lil Wayne,The I.C.U. began aggravating their parents and neighbors with rapping and beat making in kitchens and car ports. As high school students The I.C.U. made a name for themselves’ playing at various clubs around New Orleans and established a following. However, just as things were starting off, tragedy struck ICU. In July of 2005 Jonathan Gallagher one third of the crew was fatally gunned down in the dangerous New Orleans' Seventh Ward section. As E.D. Nix and MacNiffy were regrouping, they were thrown another curve ball when the deluge of Hurricane Katrina destroyed everything they owned.
The I.C.U fought through the tragedy, continuing through their adversity, on their way to success, by adding MacNiffy’s younger brother, Flyght (Ashton McCrary). The crew of three united and released what is known as ’’The Prep Report Vol.1â€. Fans were astonished by their clever flows and outstanding swag, harkening back to mid nineties hip-hop with the charisma of the new millenium rap. The group is well versed in performance and art and E.D. Nix has exuded this through his own cable access show, Hip Hop and Fashion. Witty and cynical lyrics referencing pop culture and growing up in the 21st century define ICU’s songs and show us serious potential.
The I.C.U. is now working on major deals with various labels and are in talks for an upcoming international tour. The motto that The I.C.U. lives by, ’’Measure Success by The Goals You Achieve, Not by The Money You Receive’’ exudes the brand of people that they are. The I.C.U. continues to live by that motto as they drive on their way to success.
