Music:
Sing gospel, jazz, classical, folk, even a bit of country. I focus on the words of the song moreso than the style. It is the combination of words and music that changes the soul.
Movies:
Like to challenge a movie to make me cry. Love sitting on the edge of my seat. Love gore that makes me laugh or keeps me awake. Nothing like laughing to end the day. Love avant-garde and foreign too.
Television:
Shhhhhh-don't tell but I get a kick out of some trash tv. Love most tv as I grew up on it. Used to do my homework between commercials (was still an A student!)
Books:
Zora Neal Hurston, anything by Alice Walker, James Baldwin especially Giovanni's room, Bible, Torah, Koran and oooh Toni Morrison. They all come to mind first.
Heroes:
Alice Walker, Zora Neal Hurston, Arthur Ashe, Mom and brother, George Mesterhazy, Shirley Horne, Ella Fitzgerald. Would make for one helluva dinner party.
