About Me
I am a musician/songwriter. I sing, and play piano, guitar, bass and drums. I am a songwriter, but first and foremost I consider myself to be a human, as I believe that to be a prerequisite.
My influences range from Metallica to Beethoven, but my musical style is created through an innate feel for music, and also by a process I would describe as a musical osmosis. I love classical piano, and much of my own compositions have been described as being similar to music of the Minimalist movement. Growing up, I absorbed much of The Beatles catalogue, which seems natural given that my father is a Liverpudlian, like the Fab Four. This is probably why I am very adamant that a song should be built around a great melody.
I found my soul in rock and roll, and never looked back.
I really feel an affinity for old-school Metal, mainly Metallica, and so my music is a blend of that, classically-tinged piano, and Classic Rock, such as Alice Cooper. Like Alice, I too prefer to live on the dark side, and my lyrics reflect this.
I have lived in Adelaide my whole life, since July 1986, and have not ventured from this fine country thus far- so I have explored the greater world vicariously through the stimulants of imagination- music, books, film, television. The world as I see it- that is, rich in vibrancy and tragedy, as discovered through the microcosm of my own experience- is the landscape upon which my musical vignettes are painted.
My songs are part soliloquy, part social commentary. And of course, sticking it to The Man!
I sincerely hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
ABOUT THE DEMO:
These songs were done in a rush, so I'm going to re-record them so they fit my 'vision'. For the moment though, they're just a taste of what is to come. I want "Death is a Dark Romance" to eventually be recorded with a full band, and I have many ideas on how to make "It's Like..." better. (It's supposed to be metal-ly but didn't really turn out that way.) Will let all my myspace friends know when it's done. Thanks to everyone who has had a listen.
UPDATE:
I'm currently working on a song called "Vultures Circling Overhead". It has a gothic metal sound. Also hoping to record "The Graveyard Song" soon too, a melancholy piano-based ballad I'm told is "beautiful...and spooky" :-)
PLEASE READ: I'M HAVING SOME COMPUTER PROBLEMS AT THE MOMENT, SO IF I DON'T REPLY TO MESSAGES, COMMENTS ETC. OR ACCEPT REQUESTS STRAIGHT AWAY, PLEASE BE PATIENT!
