Hello and welcome to the official Squares myspace (not that there are any fan spaces out there, like...) maintained and checked almost everyday by Daniel (vocals) and Martin (guitar). This is the best way of getting in touch with us and finding out what we're up to, so keep checking or you'll miss out!
Squares is based around songwriting partners Daniel (vocals) and Martin (bass), and is completed by Lee (guitar).
Although this line-up has only been together for a few months, Squares has existed in one form or another for over a year.
During that time the band has written around 50 songs, recorded a handful of demos, and received favourable reviews from Planet Sound (Teletext), BBC Wear (website), NARC. (local music paper) and the Shields Gazette (local newspaper).
Squares practice at The Bunker in Sunderland, and record at The CAVE in South Shields.
The band has played live at The Sage Gateshead, The Customs House in South Shields, the Fishtank in Durham, and in various other venues across South Shields and Sunderland.
Squares describe their sound as 'pop music', 'indiepop music' and 'good pop music'.
The band aims to write songs with interesting music and lyrics, but not at the expense of a good ol' fashioned singalong.

Sounds Like: "From rags to Richmond - 8/10

Is singer Daniel's dream of rock glory leading him to a Mick Jagger-style pad in South West London?
Not sure if he'll quite get on to millionaire's row with this slice of sweet summer pop, but he may get darned close.
A tale of turning water into wine may not be the most original subject matter, but this has real class."
Review by Al Clay (Planet Sound, 02/07/07)

"The sort of alternative vibe to shift Sunderland into the 21st century...whether they like it or not."
"Upbeat riffs...intricate melodies"
Review by Katie McMillan (for BBC Wear)

Assembled from lots of comparisons:
A cross between Jarvis Cocker, Morrissey and Mick Jagger fronting a band made up of Belle and Sebastian, Futureheads, Maximo Park and Jam members playing a set of 1980's jangly pop songs.
