I'm a producer. I used to be Brendan O'Brien but the world's most famous rock producer's mamma gave him exactly the same name. Its the equivalent of starting a band and calling yourself Pearl Jam or U2. I didn't worry about it for years (mucho misunderstanding though when I worked in the US in the nineties). Then I noticed in the Wikipedia (and other US sites) that he's credited with a couple of my records, including one to which I'm particularly attached (Deadly Nightshades' self titled). It must have been on my mind because I had this wierd dream in which I was called "Melvin Tree". Soon after that I was in the studio with Marty (Willson-Piper from The Church) and The Mood Maidens doing a track for the Elliot Smith tribute (Remote Memory). I told bassist Tracy Ellis about my silly dream. She said "That's a great name...sounds like a 50s movie star!" The rest is recent history. Remote Memory is my first album as Melvin. I'm currently working on records for Leroy Lee, Tim Weekes, Tania Murray and DidgeBoys and a single for Doug Sandrini with other projects scheduled so there'll soon be more Melvin out there.I am worryingly obsessed with music production and sound design. If you have anything to say on these topics I'd love to hear it.
