DEBBIE SCERRI, winner of the Malta Music awards for `Best Female Singer` for two consecutive years, 1996 and 1997, started her career about twelve years ago.In 1997 she represented her country in the Eurovision song contest with the song by Ray Agius `Let me Fly` placing 9th, this was the second experience after being a backing vocalist for the song `This Time` in 1993.Debbie took part in various local musicals and festivals and is also a cabaret artist in various
night-clubs and hotels. She performed with YADA Dance Company in their hit shows `FireDance` - 1997, `Era` The Dance Show 1998 and `Strait Street - 2005. Besides singing Debbie hosts her own T.V. show on one of the local T.V. stations.
She also had the opportunity to perform in clubs in England, Tunisia and Australia and on
Cruise liners around the Mediterranean.She represented Malta in Greece with the song `Born to Love`, a duet with Alexander Schembri in 1995, won the Best Performance Award in the `South Pacific International Song Contest` in Australia, in which she participated again in 1998 with the song `This Time You Won`t`, placing first in the Dance category and winning the FIDOF Award for the most outstanding young performer. She has won the 2001 Kasdav International Award for the Best Maltese singer which took her to Prague to represent her country in the Universe Talent Singers Festival. Her latest single `Perfect Timing` won a radio competition in Cyprus to represent the same country in Venezuela placing 2nd from 40 countries.
Debbie`s first CD album `Having You` was released in May 1997 after returning from Eurovision. Prior to that Debbie had released CD singles- `Born to Love `, `Let me Fly` and `Era`. Other songs from her repertoire are included in various compilations that where released in Malta and abroad. Her album `Tbissima` was released for the Maltese communities in Australia, and San Francisco, U.S.A. where she was giving live performances. In 2004 she also performed in Toronto, Canada and Michigan, U.S.A.A single was recorded in collaboration with one of Malta`s rap bands Prodigal Sons and was featured in the Malta Song for Europe Festival. The song is called Get Free, music by Andrew Zammit and lyrics by Prodigal Sons and Debbie Scerri.Recently Debbie has been collaborating with well known songwriter from Cyprus Michalis Antoniou, where a video of the single `Perfect Timing` a composition of the same Antoniou and words by Theocharis Anastasiou was launched in November of 2005.
