Hip-hop/Rap plays a major part in the music industry today. Some major artists include Nelly, Lil Wayne, and T.I. The southern and mid-west regions have given the industry talented rap acts that have stepped into the spotlight to become major sellers. This southern and mid-west style is present in an artist, Joshua "Jay Kidd" Stump. This artist many call Saint Orleans, was born June 21, 1987 in New Orleans, Louisiana. In 1998, Jay Kidd and his family relocated to Saint Louis, Missouri.
Although he recorded his first song at the age of 9, Jay did not began to dream of one day becoming a major artist until he met Antoine Donson. The two formed a group called Phaded Definitions which later on went on to become Startin’ Lineup. The group signed to a local label in 2002 called Playboi Records. It is here that Jay Kidd gained studio experience and artist development. Forced to compete with other artist on the label Jay wrote his own music and developed his stage presence. From winning talents shows at his high school to performing at local clubs, performance was the one of the most important factors in the eyes of Jay Kidd. The group departed to pursue solo careers.
Now as a solo artist Jay Kidd can now display his Jazz roots in New Orleans and Saint Louis experiences lyrically and with co-production of his music. Also known for the blend of Saint Louis and New Orleans accents this gives people a new song that has never been heard before. Coming from of Grammy nominated artist Guitar Slim Jr. and having uncles who played in bands with the Sounds of Blackness, music has been apart of his family since he could remember. It is this that makes this young talented rapper a potential top-selling artist in the music industry today.
