Cothurnus began in the spring of 2000. It is a true one man metal project - no drum machines or session players. This is the long time creative project of The Torture Cell frontman and Wehrwolfe drummer, Mordrid . This could be seen as the alter ego of Mordrid's other solo effort The Reticent .
Cothurnus unabashedly attempts to combine all elements of all styles of metal. No songs will be very alike and no genre will ever be solely represented.
To date, Cothurnus has only released one album 2002's very limited release "Tears of Astaroth". With a plethora of material written since that time, plans for a new, better produced, and wider distributed album are still in the works. When time permits from Mordrid's time with Wehrwolfe, The Reticent, and The Torture Cell, focus will be placed on completing a new album.
