About Me

In a nutshell: David is a very laid back, easygoing fellow who is rather easy to get along with. He has a good, and at times strange, sense of humor and a creative imagination. He has never had anyone who could remotely be considered an enemy. He very seldom uses any profanity, but on the rare occasions he does attempt to use such words, it usually just sounds awkward and unnatural. While it many ways he could be considered relatively "normal", David prides himself on being unconventional. He has possessed a somewhat poor self-image and lack of personal confidence in the past, but these things have improved drastically in recent times to the point where he now enjoys a high degree of personal pride and optimism in regards to his perceived unlimited potential. He has a wonderful girlfriend who has contributed greatly to this, for lack of a better word, transformation. He is rather minimalistic for this day in age, but his purchases of an I-pod and new fancy car (Toyota Camry) in the past year were spontaneous splurges that he feels somewhat guilty for, but at the same time realizes that such luxuries are appropriate self-rewards for his daily efforts he exhibits as a worker and as a human. Still, he lives in a small, modest apartment in a quiet neighborhood with a cat named Jude and a set of four plates and bowls. He can at times be quite comfortable, perhaps to a fault, just simply sitting outside daydreaming and people watching or barricaded in his apartment staring blankly at his television set watching arguably uneducational programs hours upon end. He considers these periods of relative laziness to be unproductive, but at the same time, he experiences some of his deepest levels of thought within their duration. David is a thinker. Not to say that he is overly intelligent, but simply that he spends an abundance of time in thought – whether it be in reflection about events of the past or dreaming of the possibilities of the future. He is sociable and enjoys conversation, but typically keeps to himself unless he has what he deems something important to say that is beneficial to those who will hear it. It is perhaps for this reason that he has friends who value what he says and seek his opinions and advice when confronted with difficult decisions or problems. He is noticeably shy in social situations, and the painful shyness sometimes accounts for his quietness. He has a fear of embarrassment. He has frequently been made aware by some people that he is always smiling. However, he doesn’t realize this. Much like he doesn’t realize that his body is often severely tense to the point of clenching his fists until he stops to think about it. He is in the process of loosening up and coming out of his proverbial shell. He attributes some unfavorable aspects of his personality to unfortunate events and circumstances of his childhood. David wants to see the world. Not necessarily in a geographical sense, but more in a cultural way. He likes people and diversity of all types. He has perhaps a silly and unreasonable vision of a world without borders and a human race with a common vision. At the risk of seeming holier than thou, David likes to help other people. He finds it rewarding and self-fulfilling among other things. He feels like he hasn’t given enough of himself so far, but he is currently contributing to some positive efforts and pursuing more volunteer opportunities. David considers himself to be a genuine person and that is perhaps the one quality for which he is the most proud. He likes to write – whether it be poetry, jibberish, or whatever is on his mind at any given time. And he often likes to share his writing and inner thoughts with anyone who is interested, but not dwelling on them or analyzing them. He shares some of his writings on this myspace blog for whomever wishes to read them. David enjoys sports and physical activity. He likes to exercise and especially prefers weight training. Not simply just to improve or maintain ideal physical condition or appearance, but perhaps more because he likes the controllable pain, the challenge and the measurable progressions that such hobby or activity offers. David likes children. He supposes perhaps it may be because of their simplicity, their innocence, their smiles, and the fact that they are still in the early stages of their lives and more susceptible to absorbing the positive influence he is capable of producing. He is a godfather for four young children, randomly asked to be one by four separate people. He is proud of this and views the role as being a mentor for these children and hopes to watch them grow and mature into successful people. He is pretty sure he will also have children of his own someday and is confident that he will be a great dad. David likes the job he has and the opportunity it gives him to help employees. He doesn’t like when he is asked where he sees himself in 5 or 10 years. Perhaps because he honestly doesn’t know, and any answer he gives may be selling himself short since he believes the possibilities are endless, and he thrives on the uncertainty. He has always been a late-bloomer in many facets of life, and perhaps often old-fashioned and behind the times in many ways. But he is ok with that. He is a firm believer in the importance of good manners and the golden rule. David makes up for many of his shortcomings or personal deficiencies by overcompensating with hard, honest work and perseverance. He enjoys listening to music and playing guitar. He used to write songs until he reached a point where he felt like he was lacking creativity, perhaps due to the limitations of his skill level. However, he is certain he will experience an overwhelming burst of inspiration someday and create wonderful songs. David has a unique physical appearance, and has been said to have a Mediterranean look. He has come to accept and appreciate his appearance. He has been said by various sources to resemble “The Karate Kid” Ralph Maccio, Dustin Hoffman in “The Graduate,” Bob Saget, a deer, Tom Welling and the lead singer of the band All American Rejects, among others. David finds it rather annoying when people refer to themselves in the third person.

My Interests

New and exciting experiences. I like skulls.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to go back in time and meet people from the past. And actually live in another era for purposes of comparison.Yes...that is the classic episode of Full House when Steve Urkel made a cameo appearance!

Music:

I was here and you probably weren't. This crappy video doesn't do it justice.Listing a bunch of random bands is lame. Anything that rocks your face off. I like pretty much all music, except for the kind that sucks. I suppose the majority of what I typically listen to could fall under the insanely broad and fuzzy classification of “alternative rock”, but I also really enjoy pop, reggae, hip-hop, folky-like stuff and definitely “oldies” as well. I like variety and stuff that makes you bang your head and dance like a fool. Sometimes I go through phases of listening to a particular kind of music, and my mood is often a factor in what I listen to. I always enjoy a good high energy live rock show. And I also try to support some local bands as long as they are bringing the rock the right way. As far as mellow stuff goes, Jack Johnson is consistently one of my favorites.

Movies:

Probably my favorite movies are just plain silly movies and romantic comedies. I like "feel good movies" with happy/unrealistic endings and plots. But I also appreciate movies that have a moral to them. And I guess I enjoy an occasional action/adventure movie as long as it is not too comic booky. Documentaries can be good too, depending on the topic.

Television:

Random stuff...lots of Scrubs reruns lately. Sometimes Seinfeld and Fresh Prince. And sometimes good standup comedy.

Books:

I don't read many books. But I am a fan of two obscure authors by the names of Roald Dahl and Richard Brautigan. I like to read about evolution, philosophies, and other cool and or/controversial topics. And occassionally I will read books of the motivational, humor or biographical varieties. I also enjoy poetry and short stories. I subscribe to Men's Health magazine, for some reason. I like magazines...I don't have to concentrate as much. I like to look at pictures. But I hate those little subscription cards that are always getting in the way and falling out of magazines. Why do they put so many of them in there?

Heroes:

For lack of specific names right now...My heroes are anyone who makes significant, large-scale personal sacrifices for the benefit of others, or to stand up for what they believe to be just and/or right. Oh, and I should probably mention God, because without Her, it would not be possible for people to win awards and thank her during their acceptance speeches.
