I started playing guitar on the very first day of my freshman year of high school. I will never forget. I was heading onto the campus of Fountain Valley High School carrying my Tenor Saxophone on my way to band class. As I looked out across the quad area there were all these Hippy looking dudes playing acoustic guitars and singing Beatles songs. I could not help but notice that these guys were surrounded by a very attractive group of female listeners. I looked down at my saxophone, and looked at them, and decided right then and there that I needed to learn to play the guitar.I shelved my old saxophone and went and sought out an acoustic guitar. Luckily for me I had a friend at the time that had an Ibanez acoustic guitar that he had no desire to learn to play. He did, however, have a girlfriend that he was about to start a more intimate relationship with, so he made me a proposition. This was in the days that you had to ask the pharmacist for condoms. They were stuffed way back in the store somewhere and it was a rather embarrassing situation to go and buy them. Plus you had the risk of someone coming in and seeing you purchase these things. So I went to Thrifty’s and bought an econo pack of Trojans and traded him the condoms for the guitar. I have been playing it ever since…
I joined my first band around 16 years ago. It was a little Jam band when I was in the military stationed in Germany. I guess I got hooked because I have been in bands ever since. The names have all been funny from K9, Picasso Trigger (not the signed group), to The Burn'n Turtles.Currently I play in a band called Sachi. We have been together going on 6 years. We have 2 CD’s of original music, and we are planning to start recording CD 3 in the summer of 2007. This has been the most enduring musical project that I have ever been a part of. In the six years we’ve been together we have only lost 2 members. One by choice and one by circumstance. Liquiddirt (Scott) went to the hot sands of New Mexico. And “He†who must never be named, we do not know.
