UNIQUE ACOUSTIC ARTIST SIGNS TO A&R SELECT
HOLLYWOOD, CA. - A&R Select, the leading independent A&R firm in Hollywood, announces Wes Meek's addition to the A&R roster of up-and-coming artists.
Wes is primarily an acoustic artist but is quick to point out that he doesn't fit the stereotype most people associate with the “acoustic” category. “I try to stay away from the general thought of what acoustic music should be, or what comes to mind with the word 'acoustic'. Most acoustic artists are very sappy or super upbeat, but I'd rather play music through a deeper, or more real and authentic, sound.” Meek goes on to say that he isn't being derisive of “super upbeat” acoustic style, but that his metaphorical and lyrical style simply don't fit that artistic framework.
Wes, as a listener, uses music to relax, but also to stimulate the mind. And that's the same thing he wants to offer his listeners. A forthcoming release will show his surprising style to eager listeners. He's working on doing a new-and-improved version of some songs from a previous 6-song E.P. He's put together a full band and augmenting the instrumentation to make the songs more robust and give them the full-bodied personality they deserve. Fans will delight at his music, which is low-key but vital and passion in a sublime way. “Predictable songs are pathetic, so I love calm but emotionally intense music.”
But new versions of these tunes are not all Wes has up his sleeve. He is currently working on doing a full-length with a recording studio which has enabled him to use whatever instruments he desires in order to create just the right textures for his songs.
Besides the redux version of his E.P. Meek will also be sharing his distinctive sound via a summer tour. For now, he's working on the recording process and writing new material.
It's an exciting time for Meek, for while he wants people to be entertained by his songs, he also has ideas about life he wants to share. Wes refuses to write shallow songs. He wants all his music to have something to say. “I write songs a lot of the time with metaphors referring to my life situations with relationships and such.”
But Wes likes to couch his thoughts in poetic allegories that, on the surface, seem fantastical and daring, but leave the listener able to find his own understanding. “(My ideas) get turned into metaphors that, if you don't know what it's referring to, could sound like a song about a sea monster or astronaut.” But listeners can rest assured, a fuller meaning awaits for those willing to seek it.
