Rushmore Recordings was started up by Steve Allen in April 2004 ostensibly to release the second Electric 6 album Senor Smoke via a deal with Warner Bros UK and when Vanessa Contenay-Quinones & her fabulous O's popped up with a very cool ep in the of shape Plus Rien who could resist!
Their debut La Ballade d'O is described by Rough Trade as “ ...a fantastic album of european cool with breathy vocals over music that sounds like The Concretes, Stereolab or a more modern take on the Velvet Underground, you will instantly fall in love with this album…†and by Les Inrockuptibles Paris as an “...epatant album d’ultra pop, entre Bardot et les Velvet" and many other such acolades. The O's spent 2004/2005 writing and recording on a mac portable in hotel rooms & apartments in London, Paris and New York to produce the songs, brought in friends like Hives producer Pelle Gunnerfeldt on bass, production and mix duties who brought in Bjorn 'Peter Bjorn and John' Yttlling ..boards and Per Nordstrum on drums to complete what become the debut album, decided to go DIY and release the album on our very own Rushmore Recordings out of London and by summer 2007 the album was out there in France, Japan, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Portugal, Thailand and digitally of course worldwide via iTunes, Napster, Rhapsody and the rest.
**Vanessa also recorded with Lou Reed (Sunday Morning) and Scott Walker (The Drift 2006) in this time...which was nice and in 2007 contributed a track to the Ennio Morricone tribute album 'We All Love Ennio Morricone' also featuring Springsteen, Metallica, Herbie Hancock and the maestro Ennio himself,February 2008 see's Vanessa & The O's working away on new material...coming your way soon pop pickers!
