The devil's in the detail

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

myself in 50 years time. And people who blog. Obviously I won't hold it against if you don't, but I do love to read about people's lives and thoughts. I'm nosy like that.

Music:

Belle & Sebastian; Felix da Housecat; Jurassic 5; Blondie; Goldie Lookin Chain; Mr Scruff; Elastica; They Might be Giants; De La Soul; Primal Scream; Simon and Garfunkel; DJ Shadow; Rolling Stones. And loads more that I can't think of right now.

Movies:

I like really really scary films - especially Japanese ones. Also anything that involves David Lynch. Just seen Hot Fuzz which was hilarious! I've also recently watched Kill Bill for the first time; I didn't think I would like it but I did. A lot. Most recent film: Sunshine. Verdict? If it's space films you're wanting, best stick to Space Odyssey 2001 and Event Horizon. This is a big disappointment.

Television:

British comedy - we do it best. Monty Python, Peep Show, League of Gentlemen, Big Train, The Mighty Boosh, Spaced, Jam, Green Wing all get my vote. The stranger the better. Life on Mars is sheer brilliance. As is Dr Who. Also like those ITV dramas, great for switching the brain off for a while. But not a massive TV watcher otherwise. although a bit of hangover TV on Sundays never fails to hit the spot...

Books:

All time greats include Secret History (Donna Tartt), Jane Eyre (Charlotte Bronte), Sputnik Sweetheart (Haruki Murakami) The Handmaid's Tale (Margaret Atwood),The Box of Delights (John Masefield), The House of Mirth (Edith Wharton), The Raw Shark Texts by Steven Hall, The Awakening (Kate Chopin), The Time Traveller's Wife(Audrey Niffenegger). Also like Michel Faber, Alice Walker, Lionel Shriver, Philip Roth, Joyce Carol Oates, Gwendoline Riley, Kate Atkinson, Mark Danielewski, Toni Morrison and lots, lots more. (I also have a guilty liking for chick lit and trashy crime...) Just finished reading 'Haunted' by Chuck Palahniuk. Possibly the most gruesome, stomach churning book I've ever read, but absolutely brilliant.

Heroes:

anybody who's had the guts to get out there and make a difference to how we live.

Witch-hunts and Big Brother

From 1450 to 1700, witch-hunts raged across Europe. If a woman was suspected of being a witch, she was immersed in water; if she floated, then she was a witch and was subsequently burnt at the stake,...
