About Me

R E V I E W S:
7/30/08 "Before (Michelle) Branch took the stage, attendees were treated to the soulful, gritty tunes of local favorites Thomas Wynn & The Believers. These front porch rebels poured out their dance-inducing “You Can’t Hurt Me No More,” which was tinged with guitar moans and spirit-moving vocals. This quintet offered up their songs— some as sweet as honeysuckle and others as ferociously jagged as the rough sway of a tire swing in a twister. Their blistering rendition of Bob Dylan’s “The Groom’s Still Waiting at the Altar” certainly would have given the harmonica-playing folk pioneer a run for his money. Thomas Wynn & The Believers were reminiscent of Levon Helm, Neil Young and the Allman Brothers, but they still boldly radiated a sound and southern charm all their own. Even the most skeptic of souls will turn into believers after catching one of their live shows. When the set ended, I had the strange urge to drive to North Florida and gleefully run through the cotton fields, while sipping on moonshine."By Kalene McCort/Metromix Orlando
6/25/08 "The ever-astounding floridian powerhouse of soulful, gutsy, talented southern rock, the gritty power of thomas' songwriting is matched only by the authenticity of olivia's tones and the powerful presence of the band. it ain't no surprise they keep risin' to the top. experiencing them will lift your spirit and your soul. they're the best and i dont give a hot dang - if you dont agree you're just crazy. maybe you just dont like music - i dunno. also i have been known to boycrush on thomas but he doesnt know yet. shh. wait, can he read this? i'm a believer. always was!" 5/23/2008 "If you've been a loyal reader of this blog, and I know you imaginary friends are nothing if not loyal, then you know that I'm a big fan of Thomas Wynn and the Believers. So I'm happy to report that Wynn and the band are going into the studio this summer to finish a full-length release. The bad news: The band won't be playing in town for a while, so best to catch them Friday, May 30, at BackBooth, in an opening slot for Drive By Truckers' Jason Isbell." JimAbbott/SoundBoard, OrlandoSentinel.com
5/18/2008 Part II: "Thomas Wynn’s new band, The Believers, was one of the most anticipated acts of the festival. Until last year, Wynn’s former project, The Wynn Brothers Band, were a well respected local band that was a breath of fresh air in the Country music scene. Not only do Thomas Wynn And The Believers live up to the former, but their blend of Country, Rock and Soul make a crowd pleasing performance for any genre-loving audience." Jim Carchidi, Fieldsedge.com
5/18/2008 "The real draw of the evening was Thomas Wynn and The Believers. Formerly of The Wynn Brothers Band, Thomas put together a great ensemble that touts a Southern Rock edge with some R&B and a lot of soul mixed in. As FMF 2008 wound down, they lit up Cheyenne Saloon and made for a great ending to a great festival." Jim Carchidi, Fieldsedge.com
5/18/2008 "FMF 2008, Day Three: Thomas Wynn makes us Believers So it turns out that there can be terrific sound in the beautiful Cheyenne Saloon. It helps if you put an act on the stage that can draw some bodies into the room. On Saturday, Orlando's Thomas Wynn & the Believers . . . actually turned the room into a bustling, happening spot. As much as I dearly loved the defunct Wynn Brothers Band (with Wynn brother Jordan on bass), the Believers is quickly evolving into a unit that is equally expressive, with an added jolt of Southern rock muscle. Much of the material on Saturday channeled old-school Memphis R&B as much as rock, allowing Wynn to really let his gritty tenor be carried away by the emotion. The Believers is still a family affair and sister Olivia's presence is expanded in the mix. Her work on the keys add texture to the songs and her harmonies with her brother are still mighty fine. Perhaps the high point, in terms of the singing, was an understated turn on The Band's "Evangeline," with Olivia doing a dandy job on the Emmylou Harris part. Guitarist Justin Beckler took a few turns on lead vocals as well, although his most significant contribution was on instrumental solos that straddled the border between country and rock. I really love this band." JimAbbott/SoundBoard, OrlandoSentinel.com
10/7/2007 "They’ll make believers out of you . . . this band is phenomenal and one of a kind. The music is perfectly mastered together. The artists not only bring outstanding performances and talent to the stage, but compliment each other so that their sound is well-blended. The vocals are rich and powerful. Their lyrics about life and love are not cliché, but deep and universal. They put on a great show and will put you in your seat and keep you silent and amazed the whole time they are playing." Kaitlyn Smoleroff, DeLand, The Score – newsjournalonline.com
8/4/2007 "I heard Thomas Wynn and the Believers the other night at Bamboo that put me in the mind of Delaney and Bonnie's style. They did a lot of truly excellent originals as well as a couple covers by the Band like "The Weight" and "Evangeline" both of which was sung mightily and raised the hair on my neck. Papers seem to think they are Rock, but I think they are just real good and somehow got tuned into that Delaney, Bonnie, Leon/Shelter People era and are following the path where it left off." 7/12/2007"Speaking of roots-rock, Thomas Wynn & the Believers played the club <[i>the Social] July 6. The direction of this new project isn’t too far from the homespun sweetness of his former group, the sibling-driven Wynn Brothers Band. For example, Thomas brought over the vocal talents of sister Olivia to help out. But he also recruited Justin Beckler, a considerable talent as a solo artist, to kick up the bluesy octane. The result is less amble and more muscle, a bracing new formula." - 7/12/2007 : THIS LITTLE UNDERGROUND: Bao Le-Huu
