A year later, they still aren't lining up to fight him. After a while, the Shuler's Gym resident was forced to take matters into his own hands and went out on the road for fights at a time where it might have been a little bit pre mature. Though the end results weren't what he expected, a lot of valuable experience was gained and should serve him well as he continues his quest to put him name back on the map. Most recently, Jamaal took a trip to Big Bear, California to serve as a chief sparring partner for middleweight contender Enrique Ornales to prepare the ranked Mexican for his fight against Norbert Bravo of The Contender season 2. The work paid dividends for Ornales in February as he knocked Bravo out in the 6th round of that fight. There had been a lot going on inside and out of the ring with the loss of his wife to cancer, going on the road in other fights hometowns and more. Many would pack it up but he is here to let everyone know that he can still fight and his still means business.PK: Last time we talked, you were in a spot where you couldn't get any fights in your home town. You had to take matters into your own hands, tell us a little about that.JD: I still can't get no fights in Philly! At that time I was in the gym everyday, working hard but not fighting and kept thinking that I gotta be doing something. I left town but my last two fights didn't go the way we wanted them to. The first one was at Madison Square Garden fighting against one of their guys, Peter Quillan. Man, the hardest part was being in front of that big crowd. It was really overwhelming. It was the fight just before it went on to TV which was an HBO pay-per-view, the Garden was sold out. It took me a while to get used to the crowd alone. It was a big learning experience, I can't lie I was off for 13 months against someone who was fighting consistently. It was his crowd, he had been on a stage like that before. For me to get the opportunity I took that as a learning experience and brought that into my next fight. I am used to it now, the Garden won't faze me again.PK: Right after that you took on another undefeated fighter. This one has some controversy behind it from what I hear. What happened?JD: Training got rough for a while, my wife was in the hospital all that year. She would come home for a little bit then go right back in. I was fighting, and training and working and taking care of my kids, it was a lot. After the Quillan fight I went to Vegas and fought Donny Orr, who was a Canadian Olympian and they robbed me. I was the main event and that was great. I was used to opening up cards or being the co-feature. I got robbed but I took it on the chin. It was a step up fight and I boxed the guys head off. I got head butted a few times, he was grabbing holding, Joe Cortez was the ref and he didn't do nothing about it. I got cut over my eye from one of those head butts and I wanted to punch him in the face after the round. I kept my composure and learned how to fight hurt. I learned how to think and be more professional. Some people get hurt and their pride kicks in and they want to go to war and it was hard for me not to. I knew when he saw blood he would go for it. He caught me with a clean right in the 5th. I was never hurt before and I wanted to return fire but had to be smart and box him. I got to the corner my trainer Sharon Baker told me to just box, stay smart, don't let him hit you again. So I boxed better, slipped more and did what we had to do but they still gave it to him. He was one of their guys and they were trying to move for a little belt. It was a rough time. I kind of expected it, when you go into another guys backyard you need to knock him out to win. We came home regrouped and tried to get a rematch which they turned it down. I learned but it would have been better if I got the win.PK: I was told of your wife's passing and am very sorry to hear that. Cancer has been a fight both of you have been battling for some time.JD: My wife died December 15th. We were just recently married on October 6th. she gave me 2 beautiful kids who are 5 and 7, she still made it to my fights even though she was sick. Cancer is a strong thing. Everybody is put here for a limited time. She put a lot of growth and maturity in front of me. I was working last year, she said stop working so you can train. It was rough but we got through it. If I was sick she would be right there for me. Everything I do with boxing I dedicate to her. We are trying to get something going to help fight cancer. Everyone one from my camp and in my boxing family was there for me. There was a lot of love at the gym and I want to thank everyone in my camp. They see me down there, they know if I'm not smiling then something wrong. Everyone is riding with me right now. God puts us all here for a reason and I take advantage of that because I have a lot of good people around me.PK: That's a lot for anyone to deal with.JD: A lot of thoughts go through my head but I'm not mad. I can't pout and let things get me down. I'm back to the basics and always in the gym. Right now my main focus is on the boxing game and getting back to the point where I was. A good name who can fight. A lot of local promoters don't want to look out for you. They smile in your face and say I'll put you on but next it's why aren't your ticket sales up? I can do the ticket thing but guarantee my fight! Unless you sign with these guys it's hard to get anywhere.PK: So what do you look forward to in 2008?I need to get a win back, my last few I went out on a limb. I needed a fight, not fighting was getting old. It gave me some exposure, they saw a little bit of what I can do. I know I need to be a little more busier, something I am working on in training camp. I get to talk a lot to Steve Cunningham. He was in a similar spot not to long ago where he had trouble getting fights. Rasheem Brown is back now and looked good in his fight. I expect things to go way way better this year. there are some opportunities and outside promoters interested but we will see how everything goes down. I want to be a lot more active fights and doing what I am used to doing and that is winning!PK: Is there anything you want to say as we close it out?JD: I wanna thank the whole team at Shulers, Conrete Jungle Squad, Bozie's Gym, my wife's mom, my mom my sister who just had a baby, man its a long list. I'm looking for a blessed year this year and gonna do what I gotta do.--------------------------------------------------------- --- LOOK AT THEM NIGGAS

Jamal Davis One On One Video Interview "More Than A Fighter" Often times when you sit down and talk with the men who make boxing their profession you find out there is much more to the man than we see inside the ring. Such is the case with middleweight prospect Jamal Davis (7-3, 6 KO's). The young fighter from Philly known as "Da Truth" came to California to help NABF Middleweight Champ Enrique Ornelas get ready for his last title defense and while chatting with Jamal he shared his story with us and we knew it was something that you would want to hear. Jamal has been through times outside the ring that pale in comparison to anything he will ever face in the ring. This is truly a touching story that you must see.Pound4Pound ============================================================ ==========================================================Mo nday night football .. i like woman that r smart and a lil thick tittes and azz lol thats me -----Syntnovator ----------------------------------------------------------- ============================================================ ============================================================ ==The under card also has potential to be lights out but Philly middleweight knockout artist Jamaal "Da Truth" Davis still doesn't have an opponent!
